20090136580 | PREFERENTIAL KILLING OF CANCER CELLS AND ACTIVATED HUMAN T CELLS USING ZnO NANOPARTICLES - Here we disclose the response of normal human cells to ZnO nanoparticles under different signaling environments and compare it to the response of cancerous cells. ZnO nanoparticles exhibit a strong preferential ability to kill cancerous T cells (˜28-35X) compared to normal cells. Interestingly, the activation state of the cell contributes toward nanoparticle toxicity as resting T cells display a relative resistance while cells stimulated through the T cell receptor and CD28 costimulatory pathway show greater toxicity in direct relation to the level of activation. The novel findings of cell selective toxicity towards potential disease causing cells indicate a potential utility of ZnO nanoparticle in the treatment of cancer and/or autoimmunity. | 05-28-2009 |
20090137666 | FLUORESCENT PARTICLES COMPRISING NANOSCALE ZnO LAYER AND EXHIBITING CELL-SPECIFIC TOXICITY - Multifunctional “smart” nanostructures are disclosed that include fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC)-encapsulated SiO | 05-28-2009 |
20110262364 | Fluorescent Particles Comprising Nanoscale ZnO Layer and Exhibiting Cell-Specific Toxicity - A core-shell nanoparticle having a core that includes a fluorophore and a first oxide of a first metal and a shell that includes a second oxide of a second metal such that the first oxide and the second oxide are different. Also disclosed are methods relating to the core-shell nanoparticle. | 10-27-2011 |
20120251450 | NANOPARTICLES THAT PREFERENTIALLY ASSOCIATE WITH AND KILL DISEASED CELLS FOR DIAGNOSTIC AND THERAPEUTIC APPLICATIONS - Of the many compositions and methods provided herein, one composition includes a nanoparticle having a first oxide of a first metal and a dopant that includes an ion or an atom of a second metal. A method includes a method comprising providing a plurality of nanoparticles comprising a first oxide of a first metal and a dopant that comprises an ion or an atom of a second metal; providing a diseased cell and a healthy cell; contacting the diseased cell and the healthy cell with the nanoparticle; and allowing the nanoparticle to preferentially associate with the diseased cell. | 10-04-2012 |

20090042621 | MULTI COLOURS DEVICE ILLUMINATION - A portable device having within it a multicolour illumination arrangement comprising: a surface; a plurality of light sources, at least one of the plurality of light sources being capable of generating two or more emission colours; and drive means for causing the emission colour of the at least one light source to vary; whereby the illumination arrangement can produce a varying illumination through at least part of the surface. | 02-12-2009 |
20100035582 | User alerts - An apparatus, including: a light source; a controller configured, in response to the occurrence of a first event involving the apparatus, to control the light source to produce a first, time-varying, illuminative effect that varies between maxima and minima of illumination intensity over a period of time following the occurrence of the first event, wherein the variation in the first illuminative effect is indicative to a user that the first event has occurred; and the controller being further configured, in response to the occurrence of a second event involving the apparatus, to control the light source to produce a second, time-varying, illuminative effect that varies between maxima and minima of illumination intensity over a period of time following the occurrence of the second event, wherein the variation in the second illuminative effect is indicative to a user that the second event has occurred. | 02-11-2010 |

20120019448 | User Interface with Touch Pressure Level Sensing - An apparatus including a housing; electronics in the housing; and a user input configured to allow a user to input information into the apparatus. The user input includes a touch panel on the housing. The user input is connected to the electronics and is configured to distinguish between first and second different levels of touch pressure by a user. The user input is configured to display a keyboard keys graphic. The apparatus is configured such that the first level of touch pressure at a first location of the touch panel is determined to correspond to selecting one of the keys of the graphic by the user as first information. The second level of touch pressure at the first location is determined to correspond to second information which does not correspond to selecting one of the keys of the graphic by the user. | 01-26-2012 |
20120194423 | MULTI COLOURS DEVICE ILLUMINATION - A portable device having within it a multicolour illumination arrangement comprising: a surface; a plurality of light sources, at least one of the plurality of light sources being capable of generating two or more emission colours; and drive means for causing the emission colour of the at least one light source to vary; whereby the illumination arrangement can produce a varying illumination through at least part of the surface. | 08-02-2012 |
20140126201 | MULTI COLOURS DEVICE ILLUMINATION - A portable device having within it a multicolour illumination arrangement comprising: a surface; a plurality of light sources, at least one of the plurality of light sources being capable of generating two or more emission colours; and drive means for causing the emission colour of the at least one light source to vary; whereby the illumination arrangement can produce a varying illumination through at least part of the surface. | 05-08-2014 |
