20090030222 | SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR FUNCTIONALIZING PARTICULATES WITH SILANE-CONTAINING MATERIALS - Systems and methods of functionalizing particulates are provided. A method of functionalizing particulates includes providing particulates to a reactor, fluidizing the particulates in substantial absence of solvents, providing a silane containing material to the fluidized particulates, and reacting the silane containing material with the fluidized particulates to provide silane-functionalized particulates. The silane-functionalized particulates may be utilized in separation media and other industrial applications. | 01-29-2009 |

20090214701 | Method of preventing or reducing haze in a beverage using silane-treated silica filter media - The present invention provides a method for preventing or reducing haze development in a beverage. Silane-treated silica filter media are synthesized. By contacting the beverage with the silane-treated silica filter, one or more haze-forming components bind to the silane-treated silica filter media and are removed by filtration. In addition, particulates in the beverage are removed by filtration. Beverages that tend to develop haze on standing and/or chilling such as alcoholic, fruit, and vegetable beverages, are suitable for the present invention. This haze in a beverage is mainly caused by polyphenols and proteins. The present invention provides a method that can reduce the levels of both polyphenols and proteins. The silica filter media useful for the present method include rice hull ash, oat hull ash, or diatomaceous earth. | 08-27-2009 |
20090232950 | METHOD OF PREVENTING OR REDUCING OFF-FLAVOR IN A BEVERAGE USING SILANE-TREATED SILICA FILTER MEDIA - The present invention provides a method for preventing or reducing off-flavor in a beverage. Silane-treated silica filter media are synthesized. By contacting the beverage with the silane-treated silica filter, one or more off-flavor substances or off-flavor precursors bind to the silane-treated silica filter media and are removed. Beverages that tend to develop off-flavor upon storage such as alcoholic, fruit, and vegetable beverages, are suitable for the present invention. The present invention provides a method that can reduce the level of off-flavor substances such as trans-2-nonenal, diacetyl, and cis-3-nonenal. The present invention also provides a method that can reduce the level of off-flavor precursors such as linoleic acid. The silica filter media useful for the present method include rice hull ash, oat hull ash, or diatomaceous earth. | 09-17-2009 |
20120029231 | METHODS FOR REMOVING VICINAL DIOLS FROM LACTIC ACID FERMENTATION BROTH - Embodiments of a method for removing vicinal diols from a lactic acid fermentation broth comprise the steps of contacting the lactic acid fermentation broth with functionalized silica comprising at least one hydrophobic ligand to facilitate binding of the vicinal diols to the hydrophobic ligand, and separating the contacted lactic acid fermentation broth from the functionalized silica to remove the vicinal diols. | 02-02-2012 |

20110181521 | TECHNIQUES FOR CONTROLLING Z-ORDERING IN A USER INTERFACE - Systems and methods are disclosed for a z-order editing process that adjusts the z-ordering of selected objects displayed on a user interface. The z-ordering editing process may include identifying one or more selected objects and providing a z-ordering editing mode having an interactive graphical adjustment tool. The interactive graphical adjustment tool may receive user inputs indicating a desired direction for z-ordering adjustment. Changes in the z-ordering of the selected objects may be applied and dynamically previewed before ultimately being accepted by a user. | 07-28-2011 |
20110185297 | IMAGE MASK INTERFACE - Systems and methods are disclosed for an image editing process on an electronic device that uses an image mask to edit an image object. The image editing process may include an image mask overlying the image object and having a frame and an aperture. The image editing process may crop the image object based on the portions of the image object overlaid by the mask frame and the mask aperture. The image object and the image mask may be separately selected and manipulated by selecting different regions of the image object or the image mask. Additionally, a user may resize the image object by moving a slider, such as by touching and moving a slider knob along an axis. | 07-28-2011 |
