20150133639 | Use of Metal Ions for Modulation of Protein Glycosylation Profiles of Recombinant Proteins - Protein glycosylation greatly influences the structure, function, and pharmacokinetics of recombinant proteins. Here, growth media supplemented with metal ions is shown to modulate the protein glycosylation profile of recombinant proteins expressed in a variety of eukaryotic cell lines. In particular, millimolar amounts of ferric salts (e.g. ferric nitrate, ferric citrate, etc.) significantly increased the percentage of galactosylated N-glycan species. The effect on protein glycosylation was concentration-dependent manner up to 1.0 mM across multiple cell lines without adverse effects on cell viability. The use of iron supplements in cell culture media provides an efficient and effective approach towards the specific re-targeting of N-glycan glycoform profiles of recombinantly expressed proteins. | 05-14-2015 |

20120089205 | Methods and Apparatus for High-Throughput Neural Screening - In exemplary implementations of this invention, high-throughput screening of a mammalian brain is performed to locate neural circuit targets of interest. A variety of search patterns may be used for this neural screening, including (a) iterative subdivision, (b) serial search, and (c) combinatorial. To perform this neural screening, an array of optical fibers (or an array of waveguides) is inserted into the brain. Alternately, the array is positioned adjacent to the brain. Each fiber or waveguide in the array is coupled to a light source (LED or laser). The brain has been previously sensitized to light, using genetically encoded optical neural control reagents, which are delivered either using viruses or via transgenic means. In the screening, the array is used to optically perturb the brain. For example, the neurons of the brain may be activated by one color of light, and/or silenced by another color of light. | 04-12-2012 |

20120186781 | ONLINE PIGGING SYSTEM AND METHOD - The disclosure provides a heat transfer system having a tubing coil for heating fluid flowing therein, where the tubing coil can be pigged (descaled) while operationally online, instead of offline. The online system uses an assembly of valves and associated equipment to connect to a pig launcher and pig receiver while the system is online. A valve opens and the pig launches into the flow stream under pressure through the valve and travels along the tube with the fluid. The system continues to produce heated fluid with the pig in the flow path. A pig receiver receives the pig after the pigging, and then is isolated from the flow path of the heated fluid by another valve. The pig launcher, pig receiver, and pig are removed, and this process is repeated for any other passes in the tubing coil. | 07-26-2012 |
