20080220448 | ANTIGENIC PROTEIN CONJUGATES AND PROCESS FOR PREPARING SAME - An improved process for the preparation of antigenic protein conjugates is provided. The conjugates preferably are formed through reaction with one or more free sulfhydryl groups in the antigenic protein. The process of the present invention preferably employs a trialkylphosphine as the reducing agent and allows for reduction of disulfide bonds in the antigenic protein and conjugation with a conjugate moiety, preferably in a single reaction vessel (i.e. “in situ”) because the process optimally does not require the removal of the reducing agent before subsequent addition of the sulfhydryl reactive agent. Antigenic protein conjugates prepared by the in situ process and their use in diagnostic immunoassays are also provided. | 09-11-2008 |

20080277567 | Fast laser scanning optical CT apparatus - Disclosed are scanning devices which measure and quantify optical properties within an object such as the absorption of light, refractive index, light scattering, fluorescence, and phosphorescence. Through the use of two rotating plane mirrors and two paraboloid mirrors, a laser light beam is made to traverse the object to be scanned wherein the beam is always parallel to the optical axis. The invention provides an improvement over previously reported scanning devices by virtue of increased speed and resolution. Two-dimensional projections gleaned by each scan of the object are reconstructed into a three-dimensional image through the use of various computer techniques. | 11-13-2008 |
20120170049 | Novel method and apparatus for 3-D scanning of translucent samples for radiation - The present invention discloses a device to measure optical properties of a three-dimensional translucent object, and a novel method to use the device to produce a valid, reproducible, and quantitative image of optical properties across the entire volume of the translucent object. The invention provides significant and useful improvements over existing practice. The invention provides a scanning instrument which eliminates the current practice of employing liquid refractive index matching solutions. The invention further provides a new method for reconstructing a three-dimensional image from light transmitted through the entire volume of a three-dimensional translucent object. This is accomplished by accounting explicitly for the bending of the light rays using an alternative method of reconstructing the images known as the Algebraic Reconstruction Technique. | 07-05-2012 |

Preferably, the polymeric core comprises a spherical core which is encased within the external shell. The external shell is preferably comprised of a metal, most preferably lead or tungsten. The invention also provides a method for the detection and mapping of radiation in a location, which comprises: (a) placing a device according to the invention in the location to be investigated; (b) allowing the device to remain in the location and be exposed to the radiation for a predetermined length of time; (c) removing the device from the location; (d) removing the polymeric core from the external shell; and (e) analysing said polymeric core by means of an optical analysis technique applying a software-based image reconstruction algorithm in order to determine the location, form and intensity of said radiation. The device and method of the invention facilitate the detection and mapping of radiation, and find particular use in mapping the location, intensity and identity of radio-logical hazards in 3 dimensions in sites such as active cells, gloveboxes, other active plants and confined spaces. Advantages over the prior art include the lack of requirement for an electrical supply, and the ability to deal with high radiation backgrounds and to be deployed in confined or restricted spaces. | 01-27-2011 |
