20090163347 | Recovery of slurry unsupported catalyst - A method of recovering unsupported fine catalyst from heavy oil comprises combining a slurry comprising unsupported fine catalyst in heavy oil with solvent to form a combined slurry-solvent stream. The combined slurry-solvent stream is filtered in a deoiling zone. A stream comprising unsupported fine catalyst and solvent is recovered from the deoiling zone. Unsupported fine catalyst is separated from the stream comprising unsupported fine catalyst and solvent. Filtering in the deoiling zone can comprise filtering the slurry and solvent through a cross-flow microfiltration unit, recovering a retentate stream of the cross-flow microfiltration unit, combining the retentate stream of the cross-flow microfiltration unit with solvent to form a combined retentate-solvent stream, and filtering the combined retentate-solvent stream through a cross-flow microfiltration unit. | 06-25-2009 |
20100147332 | SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR PIPELINE CLEANING USING CONTROLLED INJECTION OF GAS - A method of cleaning sediment from a liquid-transporting pipeline comprises injecting gas into the pipeline. The injected gas forms a bubble in the pipeline and the bubble travels in a direction towards a discharge of the pipeline. Resulting turbulence at a trailing surface of the bubble causes sediment in the pipeline to become entrained in a liquid phase trailing the bubble. The bubble and sediment entrained in a liquid phase trailing the bubble are conveyed to the discharge of the pipeline. | 06-17-2010 |
20100147391 | APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR CONTROLLING A FLUID FLOWING THROUGH A PIPELINE - An apparatus and method for controlling the passage of a multiple-phase fluid through a pipeline are provided. The apparatus can generally include a first tubular passage that defines an inlet and an outlet, and a valve that is fluidly positioned between the inlet and the outlet and configured to control the flow of fluid through the first tubular passage. A second tubular passage extends from a first position upstream of the valve to a second position downstream of the valve so that the second tubular passage is configured to receive fluid from the first tubular passage upstream of the valve and deliver the fluid to the first tubular passage downstream of the valve. The valve can be selectively controlled to an open configuration to allow gas in the fluid to flow through the first tubular passage while liquid accumulates in the second tubular passage and a closed configuration to direct gas in the fluid to flow through the second tubular passage and thereby deliver liquid accumulated in the accumulation volume as a slug through the outlet of the first tubular passage. | 06-17-2010 |

20100146468 | SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR DESIGNING MULTIPLE CLOCK DOMAIN CIRCUITS - A Hardware Description Language (HDL) utilizing a Term Rewriting System (TRS) is provided that simplifies handling of clocks, and signaling between various clock domains of a multi-clock domain circuit specification. A specific clock data type is supplied for use with clock signals. Using the clock data type, and other requirements of a circuit specification, clock domain crossing between domains of clocks of the same clock family is handled implicitly. For clock domain crossing between clock domains driven by clocks of different clock families, a “hardware approach” and a “linguistic approach” are provided. A “hardware approach” provides facilities to explicitly specify a synchronizer, using, in part, TRS rules. A “linguistic approach” allows a designer to abstracts the instantiation of synchronizers and instead specify a circuit specification in terms of differently clocked interfaces. | 06-10-2010 |

20110202069 | METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR ABSOLUTE THREE-DIMENSIONAL MEASUREMENTS USING A TWIST-INSENSITIVE SHAPE SENSOR - An apparatus includes a reference fixture. The reference fixture includes a joint, and a joint tracker to track motion of the joint. The apparatus also includes a surgical instrument. A tether is connected between the joint and the surgical instrument. A shape sensor extends from the reference fixture through the joint, through the tether, and into the surgical instrument. The shape sensor is substantially free of twist. The joint tracker measures the motion of the joint. Information from the shape sensor in combination with information from the joint tracker provides absolute three-dimensional information relative to the reference fixture, i.e., provides absolute three-dimensional information in a fixed world reference frame. | 08-18-2011 |
20120123395 | FLEXIBLE SURGICAL DEVICES - A surgical device can include a tube comprising a wall having a plurality of slits oriented generally transverse to a longitudinal axis of the tube. Each of the slits may be defined by opposing surfaces. The surgical device can further include a force transmission element coupled to the tube. In a flexible state of the tube, at least some of the opposing surfaces defining respective slits are separated from one another, and in a stiffened state of the tube, a force exerted on the force transmission element causes the opposing surfaces of each slit to contact one another. | 05-17-2012 |

20090320234 | Carpet cleaning wand having uniform air flow distribution - A novel suction head for a carpet cleaning wand wherein either or both of two designs are utilized. Each design utilizes a generally fan shaped internal suction channel that fares smoothly between an exhaust channel of substantially round cross section and lips of an intake opening having a much wider and substantially rectangular cross section. The internal suction channel utilized by one design is formed with a cross section that is non-uniform when viewed along the direction of air flow through the wand, which is a dramatic contrast to the uniform cross sections of known current designs. Another design utilizes an internal airfoil interrupting the internal suction channel along its centerline for diverting the air flow more towards the outside edges of the internal suction channel. | 12-31-2009 |
