20080209635 | System and Method for Maintaining Air Inflatable Mattress Configuration - A system and method for maintaining an air inflation mattress configuration sufficient for patient support and comfort. Infrared illumination levels are measured within individual or groups of inflated mattress chambers. A staggered approach to illumination monitoring of chambers or sections to eliminate crosstalk between the infrared sensors is carried out. Distributed microprocessor controllers established in a network configuration utilizing controller network protocols reduces the wiring and connections necessary for the assembled system. Various mattress cushion construction techniques, such as sewing and or RF welding methods, are used for the creation of individual chambers utilizing specific types of IR translucent, transparent or reflective materials. The construction of the cushions and bladders in the system includes the use of various types of fabrics with low to high air loss qualities as required. The overall mattress assembly, including the control systems and the methodologies associated with such control systems, provide a unique approach to the maintenance of a consistently comfortable patient support surface. The use of a handheld unit for both programming the system and downloading information about the operation of the system is also anticipated. The specific cushion construction designs associated with the head, body, and foot cushion components of the mattress are tailored to operate specifically with the control capabilities (sensors and air flow regulators) of the invention. | 09-04-2008 |
20090249543 | Side Rail Pad/Panel Method for Patient Support Apparatus - Methods and apparatus to occlude openings and spaces of side rails are provided. One embodiment includes a pad body panel having attachment openings each defining a pivot axis. The embodiment includes follower slots in the pad body panel each to receive a bracket pivot of a pivot arm, each follower slot having a configuration centered on the attachment opening of the pivot axis. | 10-08-2009 |
20100145289 | WOUND THERAPY DEVICE AND RELATED METHODS - A wound closure apparatus to promote tissue healing at a wound is provided and includes a porous pad positioned at the wound and a suction pump in fluid communication with the porous pad to provide a negative pressure to the porous pad. The suction pump is disposed within a housing. A canister is fluidly connected between the porous pad and the suction pump to collect fluids drawn from the wound by the suction pump, and the canister is removably received by a recess in the housing. A wound cover is positioned over the porous pad to secure the porous pad at the wound, and a switch provides a signal indicating that the canister properly resides within the recess when the switch is pressed. | 06-10-2010 |
20110131725 | PATIENT SUPPORT SYSTEM WITH MODULAR INTEGRATED FLUID SUPPLY SYSTEM - A system and method for providing a fluid pressure supply system releasably coupled to a docking station of a patient support system. One or more coupling members can provide fluid communication between the fluid pressure supply source and a patient support member of the patient support system. | 06-09-2011 |
20120083755 | REDUCED PRESSURE TREATMENT SYSTEM HAVING A DUAL POROSITY PAD - A wound closure system and method having a porous pad for providing a reduced pressure to a tissue site is disclosed. The porous pad comprises a porous material formed by spraying a chemical substance that cures to form the porous material which has a body and an outer surface. Both the body and the outer surface have pores wherein the average size of the pores in the outer surface is smaller than the average size of the pores in the body. The porous pad further comprises a pathway formed within the porous material that is adapted to fluidly communicate with a source of reduced pressure. | 04-05-2012 |
20120167303 | METHODS AND APPARATUSES FOR LOW-AIR-LOSS (LAL) COVERLETS AND AIRFLOW UNITS FOR COVERLETS - Improved patient support systems comprising a coverlet configured to be coupled (e.g., removably) to an airflow unit. Improved airflow units configured to be coupled (e.g., removably) to a coverlet of a patient support system. | 07-05-2012 |

20090162315 | Enterotoxin gene cluster (egc) superantigens to treat malignant disease - The use of classical superantigens for treatment of cancer has resulted in a low response rates and serious toxicity in humans which is attributable, in part, to the presence of preformed superantigen specific antibodies in the plasma of treated patients. The present invention addresses this problem by providing a method for treating tumors comprising the administration of one or a plurality of egc (enterotoxin gene cluster) staphylococcal enterotoxins comprising staphylococcal enterotoxins G, I, M, N, O. These superantigens in native unmodified form can be administered intrathecally, intratumorally, intravenously to humans with advanced lung cancer while resolving pleural effusions and prolonging survival to 300% above control patients treated with talc pleurodesis. Intratumoral egc superantigens induces a significant and sustained reduction of the tumor size. In contrast to classic Sags, the egc superantigens induced minimal toxicity, are rarely associated with the presence of preformed antibodies and are used as a plurality with a broad T cell Vβ profile. Useful egc superantigen compositions for parenteral administration native egc enterotoxins, homologues, fragments and fusion proteins of native egc enterotoxins capable of activating a broad spectrum of T cells expressing T cell receptor/α motifs. T cell survival-enhancing cytokines IL-7, Il-15, Il-23 are used. together with parenteral egc SE therapy. Also disclosed is combined therapy that includes parenteral, intratumoral or intrathecal superantigen compositions in combination with (i) intratumoral low, non-toxic doses of one or more chemotherapeutic drugs or (ii) systemic chemotherapy at reduced and non-toxic doses of chemotherapeutic drugs or (iii) radiation therapy or (iv) anti-angiogenic and tyrosine kinase inhibitors. | 06-25-2009 |
