20090314995 | FUNCTIONALISED DOPANTS AND CONDUCTING POLYANILINE MATERIALS, BLENDS AND PROCESS THEREFOR - Conducting polymers based on renewable resource materials are very attractive because of their wide availability and lower cost compared to petroleum based products. Here we developed a novel dopant for electrically conducting polyaniline from renewable resource cardanol, the main component of cashew nut shell liquid (CNSL). The novel dopant 2-ω-unsaturated-4-hydroxy-4′-sulfinic acid azo benzene or otherwise known as cardanol azo sulfonic acid (1) is synthesized by reaction of diazotized sulphanilic acid (4-aminophenylsulfonicacid) with cardanol under the basic condition. The new cardanol azo sulfonic acid (1) has a long alkyl chains at the 2 positions, which increases the solubility of the dopant as well as polyaniline doped materials in common solvents for many applications. The present invention essentially comprises of three steps; (a) synthesis of cardanol azo sulfonic acid dopant 1 from cardanol (b) synthesis of electrically conducting polyaniline using 1 as dopant both doping the polyaniline emeraldine base in solution and melt and in-situ polymerization of aniline in presence of 1 in various organic and aqueous combination in the interfacial, emulsion and dispersion routes (c) preparation of polyaniline/dopant 1/thermoplastics blends in solution and melt process and controlling the particle size while maintaining the good morphology. The dopant (1) consisting polyaniline emeraldine salt and its thermoplastic blends are potential materials for various applications in opto-electronic industry. | 12-24-2009 |

20130213875 | HIGH FLUX HOLLOW FIBER ULTRAFILTRATION MEMBRANES AND PROCESS FOR THE PREPARATION THEREOF - The present invention relates to the production of high flux hollow fiber ultrafiltration membrane prepared from poly(acrylonitrile-co-methacrylic acid), (polysulfone and poly(acrylonitrile-co-methacrylic acid)) and (polysulfone and ion exchange resin (sulfonated polystyrene-divinyl benzene copolymer)) blend and the point-of-use filtration unit there from for water purification and disinfection. The produced membrane has an active layer with pore size which effectively rejects pathogens and other bacteria from contaminated water while allowing the passage of water to produce biologically pure water for drinking. Therefore, the present invention relates to development of hollow fiber ultrafiltration membrane that delivers biologically pure water at a desirable rate, that is at a rate 25-200 liters/m2.h. The membrane performance in terms of flux and rejection efficiency is dependent on polymer material type and surface properties. The hollow fiber membrane with interpenetrated structure prepared from a blend of polysulfone and a copolymer of acrylonitrile and methacrylic acid is advantageous over the membranes made either from polysulfone or the copolymer alone in terms of durability, strength, elasticity, smoothness, flux, separation efficiency, fouling resistance properties. The surface modified blend membranes with acid groups which have smaller pore size and surface charge exhibit further improvement in the separation efficiency. Using the hollow fiber membranes a point-of-use water filtration unit which is simple, compact, inexpensive device that does not require electricity has been developed to produce 150-300 ml/min product water when attached to a tab from overhead tank of about 3 meter height. | 08-22-2013 |

20150274924 | ELECTROSTATIC DISSIPATIVE FOAMS AND PROCESS FOR THE PREPARATION THEREOF - The present invention relates to the development of electrostatic dissipative (ESD) electronic packaging materials based on the electrically conducting nanofiller decorated polyurethane foams and also describes a process for the preparation of the same. More specifically it relates to the development of electrically conducting foams by providing a coating of 0.003 to 2.97 vol % loading of electrically conducting materials (like conducting polymers, functionalized carbon nanotubes, graphene analogues etc) over/onto otherwise electrically insulating surface of foams. The combination of low density, mechanical flexibility, resilience and surface conductivity collectively contribute towards their excellent shock absorption and static charge dissipation capabilities. In particular, these foams display surface resistivity value <10 | 10-01-2015 |
