20080247915 | Apparatus for the preparation of mammalian specimens for cryopreservation and/or vitrification, and for thawing and using susch specimens - A biological specimen processing dish assembly includes a dish portion for use in treating specimens such as oocytes, embryos, tissues, and the like sequientially with different reagents or media. The dish includes a plurality of geometrically arranged wells disposed in related sets. The wells are operative to receive reagents or media for the use in treatment of the specimens in question. The specimens can be subjected to a sequence of different treatment media in the wells in a set thereof so as to provide a coherant device for subjecting specimens to a treatment procedure that requires the specimens to be subjected to different media or reagents during sequencial steps in the treatment protocol. The dish can be partially filled with a layer of oil that overlies the reagents in the wells and protects the specimens from exposure to air during the treatment protocol. The dish can be provided with an internal partition that segments the dish so as to provide a plurality of wells that will not be covered by the oil layer. The assembly can also include a cover for overlying the dish so as to provide areas where protocol information can be displayed to enable the technician to properly use the dish assembly in performance of the treatment protocols. | 10-09-2008 |
20080248563 | Specimen container for the micro manipulation and biopsy in in-vitro fertilization - A container or dish is useful for the micro manipulation, micro injection, biopsy and fertilization in oocyte and embryo manipulation and culturing. The dish allows the user to more readily perform procedures used to fertilize oocytes by Intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) or other procedures, biopsy embryos and perform additional procedures for use in assisted reproductive techniques (ART), human reproduction and in-vitro fertilization (IVF). The invention allows ease in use, the reduction in the number of micro tools used in the procedure, as opposed to conventional dishes and procedures, and will allow the user to more readily locate the oocytes and embryos to be handled and worked on. The invention will add repetitiveness, consistency, improve efficacy and ease of procedure and may improve outcomes. The invention will also give the user a more ergonomically practical dish for these types of procedures and related protocols. Specimens other than oocytes and embryos can be treated in the container by means of micro manipulation. | 10-09-2008 |
20090130750 | Specimen culturing assembly suitable for use in in-vitro fertilization and in other cell culturing procedures - An assembly is disclosed that is to be used for the culturing of specimens such as embryos and gametes for use in in vitro fertilization. The assembly includes an annular ring which is affixed to the stage of an optical viewing instrument, such as a microscope. The viewing instrument is focused on a point which lies inside of the ring at a predetermined distance from the center of the ring. Circular specimen dishes having a plurality of specimen wells in which the specimens in question are cultured or grown is removably positioned inside of the ring. The specimen wells have bottom walls which are configured so as to ensure that the specimens in the wells will gravitate to the same predetermined position in each of the wells. That position coincides with the focus point of the viewing instrument. When the specimen culturing dishes are placed inside of the ring, they can be rotated inside of the ring to bring the specimens in each well sequentially into the focus point of the viewing instrument whereby the specimens in each dish can be quickly and accurately monitored for growth and development. Other devices are disclosed which enable the rotation of the dish and proper alignment of the specimens in each well with the focus point of the viewing instrument. The assembly can be used for a wide range of specimen culturing. Typical specimens include animal and human cells, tissues, stem cells, embryos, oocytes, immature oocytes, sperm precursor cells, embryonic cells, blastocysts, and spermatozoa. | 05-21-2009 |
20090298044 | Media solutions and methods for cryopreservation and thawing of in vitro fertilization specimens - A medium solution which will increase the growth, survival and ultimately the live birth rate of oocytes and embryos which have been or will be subjected to cryopreservation. The solution contains varied amounts of glucose, pyruvates, amino acids, vitamins K5 and C, antioxidants, fatty acids to supply the specimens with the chemical ingredients and uptake requirements required to recover and prosper during and after the cryopreservation process. The solution supplies nutrients to the specimens that will replenish depletion and damage to the specimens and their mitochondria, spindles and structural features, such as cell walls. One formulation addresses the additional requirements of frozen specimens as opposed to the current media solutions and methods which treat the un-frozen specimens the same as the frozen specimens when recovering them from cryopreservation. | 12-03-2009 |
20100041129 | Device and system for the installation of an air filtration system in an existing incubator - An improved air purification system is added to an existing incubator or environmental chamber. The improved air purification system includes a series of parts, such as a plate, motor box, power connections and filter to be retrofitted and/or installed into an available interior space of the incubator. The system increases the effectiveness of collecting and removal of particulates and VOC's for the internal environment of the incubator or environmental chamber, without expensive or cumbersome design alterations. The system may be installed at the factory or later on once the incubator or environmental chamber is in use. This will allow an alternative air purification system into existing incubators which will result in better results. | 02-18-2010 |

20100174133 | Apparatus and method for processing microscopic single cell biological specimens with a single microtool - An oocyte and embryo-positioning apparatus enables a plurality of oocytes, embryos or other cell specimens to be held and positioned for injection therein of fluid molecular reagents such as DNA, RNA, protein, cells, spermatozoa and cells; and removal of cells, fragments of cells, cytoplasm, nuclei and cellular organelles. The oocytes and embryos are kept separate from each other in open marked or unmarked well-compartments that are located in the culture container. Each well-compartment comprises one or more finger like structures that can position one oocyte or one embryo. The lanes between the digits of the fingers may be sloped allowing the oocytes or embryo to position at the narrowest and lowest point of the compartment. The method and oocytes and embryo-positioning apparatus of this invention includes a culturing container, such as a Petrie dish, in which the oocytes and embryos are held for micromanipulation. The Petrie dish preferably contains a plurality of the oocyte or embryo-holding finger like-structures which can be positioned in the Petrie dish in a predetermined pattern. For example, the well-compartments can be positioned in the Petrie dish as a strip of well-compartments between the 12 o'clock and 6 o'clock positions, or in any other planned deployment. Marked well-compartments can be identified by letters or numbers or symbols. | 07-08-2010 |
20100297600 | Flooding dish and method for changing media in the dish in the preparation of mammalian specimen culture and for cryo-preservation, freezing, vitrification and the thawing and warming of such specimens - A tray assembly which may include a single well or a plurality of wells that will contain specimens for cryo-preservation, freezing, thawing, or warming. The assembly will include a structure whereby a sequence of different media solutions can be introduced into a well or wells in the assembly without the need to move the specimens and without disturbing an overlying oil layer which floats on top of the media solutions. The media solutions will be introduced into the specimen wells through adjunct passages which communicate with the interior of the wells. The adjunct passages will preferably be integral with the wells and will be formed at the same time the wells are formed. Thus manufacturing the assembly of this invention will be inexpensive and repetitive. The adjunct passages can be used to infuse different media solutions into the wells at different stages of the protocols in question. The wells can be inverted cones or pyramids in shape. This shape allows the infusion of sequential media solutions beneath the overlying oil layer, without disturbing the specimen and without significantly elevating the solution level in the wells. The conical or pyramidal shapes also enable the user to readily locate and handle the specimens because the specimens will always gravitate to the nadir of the conical or pyramidal bottom of the wells. This shape also allows the user to see any media level indices placed on the side walls of the wells. | 11-25-2010 |
