Using short incisions in the skin, narrow tubes are inserted through the abdominal wall so that a laparoscopically-guided electro-cauterizing and irrigating visceral fat aspiration instrument can be passed through the incision to perform the maneuvers necessary for the operation. Removal of visceral fat from the mesentery is observed directly on a video monitor, which receives its picture from a video camera attached to the laparoscope.
