20100074118 | SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR DETECTING A NETWORK FAILURE - A method and system detect a failed communication transmission that fails to reach a recipient after attempting to be transmitted from a sender to the recipient over a communication path. Upon detection of the failed communication, the method initiates a first inquiry process from the sender. This first inquiry process tests how far a first test communication transmission can travel from the sender to the recipient along the communication path. Similarly, upon detection of the failed communication, the method initiates a second inquiry process from the recipient. The second inquiry process tests how far a second test communication transmission can travel from the recipient to the sender along the communication path. The method combines the results of the first inquiry process and the results of the second inquiry process to determine which of the nodes in the communication path are not successfully forwarding test communications to identify at least one possibly faulty node. The identification of the possibly faulty node is then output to the sender and the recipient. | 2010-03-25 |
20100074119 | OPPORTUNISTIC DATA FORWARDING AND DYNAMIC RECONFIGURATION IN WIRELESS LOCAL AREA NETWORKS - Mobile communication devices and wireless network device each can participate in, or solely provide, opportunistic data forwarding in a wireless network such as a wireless local area network or radio access network. A supporting node receives wireless communication between a transmitting node and a receiving node comprising packet data units (PDUs). The receiving node communicates to the transmitting node that one or more portions of the communication were not received, which is overheard by the supporting node. The supporting node can have sufficient over-the-air (OTA) allocation in its transmit opportunity to relay the failed portions to the receiving node. Thereby, techniques such as more robust error encoding, longer transmit allocations, etc., that would reduce the effective data throughput for OTA resources are avoided while providing an ability to more rapidly adapt to a changing channel state. | 2010-03-25 |

The network node also has logic that is configured to control, based on the routing indicator, whether the network node is specified as a hop for a data path from a source node to a destination node of the wireless sensor network. In one exemplary embodiment, the routing indicator is controlled based on sleeping characteristics of the network node. | 2010-03-25 |
20100074164 | Communication Systems - A method for transmission of information about downlink and uplink parameters of a intermediate apparatus link in a multi-hop wireless communication system, the system comprising a first node apparatus, a second node apparatus and one or more intermediate apparatuses, each said apparatus being operable to transmit and receive information along a series of links forming a communication path for downlink and uplink communication, the communication path extending between the first node and second node apparatuses via the or each intermediate apparatus, each link comprising either a first node link between the first node apparatus and a said intermediate apparatus or an intermediate apparatus link between a said intermediate apparatus and a said apparatus which is not the first node apparatus, and the system having access to a minimum allocation unit for allocating time and transmission frequency bandwidth, the method comprising: obtaining values of downlink and uplink parameters for a particular intermediate apparatus link; mapping both values onto a single minimum allocation unit and transmitting them towards the first node apparatus. | 2010-03-25 |
20100074165 | COMMUNICATION CONTROL APPARATUS, RADIO COMMUNICATION APPARATUS, COMMUNICATION CONTROL METHOD AND RADIO COMMUNICATION METHOD - A communication control apparatus calculates a bandwidth ratio Ri based on a received number of IP packets received from a radio communication apparatus within a window T | 2010-03-25 |
20100074166 | WIRELESS NETWORK USING NETWORK CODING SCHEME BASED ON OVERHEARING CHANNEL - A wireless network using a network coding scheme is provided. The wireless network may include at least two source nodes, at least two destination nodes, and a relay node. The at least two source nodes may divide source messages into partial source messages, and transmit the partial source messages to the relay node. The relay node may generate a network-coded message using the network coding scheme. The at least two destination nodes may overhear the partial source messages using overhearing channels and obtain the source messages based on the received network-coded message. | 2010-03-25 |
20100074167 | Downstream Time Domain Based Adaptive Modulation for DOCSIS Based Applications - In a DOCSIS based satellite gateway data is transmitted over a single downstream channel, at different throughput rates. Data destined for each subscriber/receiver is assigned a throughput rate depending upon the downstream signal quality of that subscriber/receiver. To accomplish this, the downstream DOCSIS MAC data is parsed to extract DOCSIS packets. The DOCSIS packets are then loaded into packet queues based on an identifier within such packets such as the MAC destination address or SID. Each of the queues represents a bandwidth efficiency or throughput rate that can be currently tolerated by specific subscribers based on the current signal quality being experienced at the subscriber location. A PHY-MAP describing the downstream data structure to be transmitted and inserted into the downstream data. Data is extracted from the packet queues in queue blocks as defined by the PHY-MAP. The queue blocks are modulated with transmission parameters appropriate for each queue block and transmitted to the DOCSIS based satellite modems. The satellite modems extract the PHY-MAP from the downstream data and use the information contained in it to demodulate and decode the queue for which they have sufficient downstream signal quality. Satellite modems measure and transmit downstream signal quality to the satellite gateway to be used to assigned traffic to the appropriate queues. | 2010-03-25 |
