20110033028 | Unfiltered Radiation Therapy - This is a new technique in IMRT and 3D conformal gamma radiation dose delivery using a linear accelerator with no flattening filter. The technique improves patient radiation therapy by reducing radiation scattered to surrounding normal tissue and reducing electron contamination. It increases dose rate to shorten treatment time. Linear accelerators have for decades come with a photon flattening filter to make the photon profile of planar fluence to make the dose distribution more uniform. These filters, however, resulted in fluence attenuation and contamination of the beam. Now in the age of techniques such as intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) the function of the flattening filter becomes redundant. The flattening filter now merely reduces the efficiency of the beam by reducing the fluence and increasing scattered radiation. Our technique involves removal of the flattening filter for complex treatments. It uses inverse planning along with multi-leaf collimators to shape the dose distribution. | 2011-02-10 |

20110033041 | INDEX-BASED CODING WITH A PSEUDO-RANDOM SOURCE - Outputs from at least one pseudo-random source are used to encode hidden value. The hidden value is encoded using index based quantities, for example, based on numerically ordering a sequence of outputs from pseudo-random source(s). In some examples, the numerical ordering of re-generated device-specific quantities is used to re-generate the hidden value, without necessarily requiring additional error correction mechanisms. The greater the number of decoy signals, the greater the security provided to the open-air system. Further security may be provided by encrypting both the true and decoy signals prior to scrambling and/or by utilizing a spatially diverse set of transmitters and receivers. Without the knowledge of the channel assignment(s) for the true signal(s), an eavesdropper may be able to intercept (and, with time, perhaps descramble) the open-air transmitted signals, will not be able to distinguish the true data from the decoys without also knowing the channel assignment(s). | 2011-02-10 |

An edge detecting unit detects an edge point on the basis of the possible dark-transition-boundary point and the possible bright-transition-boundary point. An outline-determining unit determines an outline of the object that minimizes the sum of deviations between the outline and the respective edge points detected on the recognition lines. | 2011-02-10 |
20110033117 | IMAGE PROCESSING APPARATUS AND IMAGE PROCESSING METHOD - For each pixel of interest in a local region of an input image, an edge intensity in each of a plurality of predetermined directions is calculated. All directions in which the edge intensities are larger than an average value of the edge intensities are selected. For all pixels of interest in the local region, the edge intensities calculated for each of the selected directions are accumulated and output as an edge feature amount. | 2011-02-10 |
20110033118 | EDGE DETECTION - One or more techniques and/or systems for detecting edges in images of objects subjected to imaging using imaging apparatus are disclosed, such that the effect of image noise on the edge detection can be mitigated. Ratios of intensity values (e.g., signal values) for a subject region (e.g., a pixel) and respective adjacent regions are determined. An adaptive threshold value is determined for respective adjacent region pairs. The ratio value is compared to the adaptive threshold value for respective adjacent region pairs, to determine whether an edge is present between the respective adjacent region pairs. | 2011-02-10 |
