20090098848MODULATED IF RECEIVER AND METHOD - A modulated intermediate frequency receiver is shown having a low noise amplifier for receiving a radio frequency signal and a modulation source for generating a modulation signal. A local oscillator generates a modulated local oscillator signal in response to the modulation signal. A first mixer mixes the output of the low noise amplifier with the output of the local oscillator. The output of the mixer is DC filtered and receive bandwidth filtered before input to a demodulator that generates a demodulated received signal. Further embodiments are shown for a complex receiver and having phase or frequency modulation compensation.04-16-2009
20110034142DETECTION OF TRANSIENT SIGNALS IN DOPPLER SPECTRA - Signal processing is used to detect transient signals in the presence of noise. Two embodiments are disclosed. In both embodiments, the time series from a remote sensor is broken into a number of short time series. The power spectrum of each short time series are then calculated along with the mean noise level. The moments of each peak in every power spectrum are calculated and the peak with the largest power selected from each power spectrum. A histogram of the moments from these selected peaks is generated and normalized to become a measured PDF. In addition, a pre-determined PDF is derived, in the same method as above, from theoretically calculated noise, numerically simulated noise, or measured noise. Comparison between the measured and pre-determined PDF's establish the detection of a transient signal. The first embodiment compares the area between the measured and pre-determined PDF's against a threshold to determine detection. In a second embodiment, the differences between the measured and pre-determined PDF's are weighted and summed to form a score. This score is compared to a threshold to determine detection.02-10-2011

Additional systems and methods are also presented.01-05-2012
20120028596WIRELESS COMMUNICATION APPARATUS CAPABLE OF RAPIDLY CHANGING DIRECTIONAL PATTERNS OF MULTIPLE STEERABLE ANTENNA APPARATUSES - A directional pattern table memory stores combined directional pattern groups in each of which combined directional patterns are ordered by different predetermined priority according to a different radio propagation environment. A controller computes a communication performance expected value based on RSSIs for when an initial combined directional pattern is set on steerable antenna apparatuses; selects one combined directional pattern group based on relative strengths of RSSIs; and according to the priority, sequentially sets combined directional patterns of the selected one combined directional pattern group, on the steerable antenna apparatuses, computes a communication performance value based on a PHY rate and a PER at each of sequential settings, and performs communication using a combined directional pattern with a communication performance value that first exceeds the communication performance expected value.02-02-2012
