20120094354 | BIOCHIP AND METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING THE SAME - A biochip and a method for manufacturing the same are provided. The biochip can increase a surface area on which biomaterials can be immobilized and improve efficiency of reaction. The biochip includes: a substrate; a coating layer formed on the substrate; and a nanoparticle immobilized on the substrate by the coating layer, a material to be bound to a target material being attached on a surface of the nanoparticle. | 04-19-2012 |
20120196345 | DOUBLE COATING PROCEDURE FOR THE MEMBRANES OF BIOARTIFICIAL KIDNEYS - The present invention generally relates to modified substrates such as membranes for use in bioartificial organs, such as bioartificial kidneys, and other applications. Certain aspects are generally directed to a membrane or other substrate modified to facilitate the attachment of cells. In one set of embodiments, the substrate or membrane may be at least partially coated with an adhesive such as 3,4-dihydroxy-L-phenylalanine (DOPA), poly(dopamine), or other adhesive comprising a molecule having a catechol moiety, for example on one side of the membrane or substrate. On at least a portion of the adhesive coated portion of the substrate, a protein may be coated, such as an extracellular matrix protein (for example, a collagen), to which cells such as primary human renal proximal tubule cells may be adhered. Surprisingly, such a dual coating may be used to promote the attachment of such cells to a membrane or other substrate that otherwise may not promote cell adhesion. In certain embodiments, the coating may also facilitate or promote not only cell adhesion, but also cell proliferation and/or differentiation. Such membranes or other substrates may be useful, for example, in bioartificial organs such as bioartificial kidneys, hemodialysis cartridges, bioimplants, biosensors, bioreactors, etc. In certain embodiments, cells may be attached to a membrane or other substrate on only one side, while the other side may be kept free of attached cells. | 08-02-2012 |
20120208256 | ENZYME-FUNCTIONALIZED SUPPORTS - An immobilized enzyme comprises a solid support, an enzyme linked to the solid support and a spacer for coupling the enzyme to the solid support. A method for the production of immobilized enzymes comprises: providing a solid support having amino-functional groups coupled to the support surface; covalently coupling the amino-functional groups with a thermally labile radical initiator; and, contacting the support surface with a solution of polymerizable monomers. The polymerizable monomers comprise functional groups which do not take part in radical polymerization, under conditions where thermally initiated graft copolymerization of the monomers takes place, to form polymer chains on the surface of the support. If the polymer chains do not already comprise primary amino-functional groups, the method further comprises transforming the functional groups in the polymer chains into groups comprising primary amino-functional groups. The method further comprises coupling the enzyme to amino-functional groups of the polymer chains. | 08-16-2012 |
20120322134 | BRANCHED POLYMERS - The present invention is directed to branched reactive water-soluble polymers comprising at least two polymer arms, such as poly(ethylene glycol), attached to a central aliphatic hydrocarbon core molecule through ether linkages. The branched polymers bear at least one functional group for reacting with a biologically active agent to form a biologically active conjugate. The functional group of the branched polymer can be directly attached to the aliphatic hydrocarbon core or via an intervening linkage, such as a heteroatom, -alkylene-, —O-alkylene-O—, -alkylene-O-alkylene-, -aryl-O—, —O-aryl-, (—O-alkylene-) | 12-20-2012 |
20130230896 | Covalently Immobilized Enzyme and Method To Make The Same - A composition of enzyme, polymer, and crosslinker forms a network of covalently bound macromolecules. The covalently immobilized enzyme preparation has enzymatic activity, and retains stable activity when dried and stored at ambient conditions. Methods for preparing an immobilized enzyme and methods for using the enzyme are disclosed. | 09-05-2013 |
20140170727 | AFFINITY MEDIUM USING FIXED WHOLE CELLS - Separation media comprising a support and crosslinked whole cells fixed to the support. The separation media are useful in affinity columns for the separation of the antibodies from a solution, particularly for the separation of polyclonal antibodies that have been raised against the same type of whole cells. In an embodiment, the whole cells are whole bacterial cells. | 06-19-2014 |
