20090067730Object Recognizer and Detector for Two-Dimensional Images Using Bayesian Network Based Classifier - A system and method for determining a classifier to discriminate between two classes—object or non-object. The classifier may be used by an object detection program to detect presence of a 3D object in a 2D image (e.g., a photograph or an X-ray image). The overall classifier is constructed of a sequence of classifiers (or “sub-classifiers”), where each such classifier is based on a ratio of two graphical probability models (e.g., Bayesian networks). A discrete-valued variable representation at each node in a Bayesian network by a two-stage process of tree-structured vector quantization is discussed. The overall classifier may be part of an object detector program that is trained to automatically detect many different types of 3D objects (e.g., human faces, airplanes, ears, etc.). Computationally efficient statistical methods to evaluate overall classifiers are disclosed. The Bayesian network-based classifier may also be used to determine if two observations (e.g., two images) belong to the same category. For example, in case of face recognition, the classifier may determine whether two photographs are of the same person. A method to provide lighting correction or adjustment to compensate for differences in various lighting conditions of input images is disclosed as well. 20110243461Methods, Systems, and Media for Automatically Classifying Face Images - Methods, systems, and media for automatically classifying face images are provided. In some embodiments, features of the face image to be classified for an attribute are selected, wherein each of the features corresponds to a different region of the face image and specifies one or more of a type of pixel data to be evaluated for the region, a normalization to be applied for the region, and an aggregation to be applied for the region. The face image is classified with respect to the attribute based on the features of the image, and the attribute and a confidence value are assigned to the face image based on the classifying. A query is received from a user, and the attribute is identified as corresponding to the query. The face image is determined as corresponding to the attribute, and the face image is identified to the user as corresponding to the query.10-06-2011
20130136371IMAGE FILTER DEVICE, DECODING APPARATUS, ENCODING APPARATUS, AND DATA STRUCTURE - An adaptive filter includes: an edge direction detection section which discriminates directionality of an input image in each of a plurality of unit regions constituting the input image; a region classification section which classifies the each of the plurality of unit regions into one of a plurality of unit region groups in accordance with to which of a plurality of predetermined groups the directionality of the input image in the each of the plurality of unit regions belongs, the directionality having been discriminated by the edge direction detection section; and a filter process section which calculates a pixel value of the each pixel of an output image by use of a filter coefficient group optimized for a unit region group to which a unit region including the each pixel belongs.05-30-2013
20130148904POST-PROCESSING A MULTI-SPECTRAL IMAGE FOR ENHANCED OBJECT IDENTIFICATION - What is disclosed is a system and method for post-processing a multi-spectral image which has already been processed for pixel classification. A binary image is received which contains pixels that have been classified using a pixel classification method. Each pixel in the image has an associated intensity value and has a pixel value of 1 or 0 depending on whether the pixel has been classified as a material of interest or not. A block of size m×n is defined. Pixel values in a block are changed according to a threshold-based filtering criteria such that pixels in the same block all have the same binary value. The block is then shifted by k pixels and pixel processing repeats until all pixels have been processed. Once all blocks have been processed, contiguous pixels having the same binary value are grouped to form objects. In such a manner, pixel classification errors are reduced.06-13-2013
20120275714DETERMINATION OF AN IMAGE SELECTION REPRESENTATIVE OF A STORYLINE - A system and a method are disclosed that determine a subset of images that are representative of the storyline of an image collection. A value of a coverage function is computed for candidate subsets of images from the image collection, where the coverage function of a candidate subset is computed based on a valuation of each image in the candidate subset and a coverage index of the candidate subset. A candidate subset that corresponds to a maximum value of the coverage function is determined, where the images of the selected candidate subset are representative of the storyline of the collection of images.11-01-2012
20130156331AUTOMATIC PRIVACY MANAGEMENT FOR IMAGE SHARING NETWORKS - In some examples, a method for managing a captured image is described. The method may include receiving image data that includes image location data regarding where an image is captured. The method may also include receiving device data from a device. The device data may include device location data. The method may also include correlating the device data with the image data. The method may also include modifying the image based on the correlation of the device data and the image data.06-20-2013
20110311150IMAGE PROCESSING APPARATUS - An image processing apparatus includes a taker. A taker takes an image. A searcher searches for one or at least two face images from the image taken by the taker. A first designator designates each of the one or at least two face images discovered by the searcher. A holder holds a plurality of face characteristics respectively corresponding to a plurality of ages. A detector detects a facial expression of the face image designated by the first designator. An estimator estimates an age of a person equivalent to the face image designated by the first designator based on the plurality of face characteristics held by the holder and the facial expression detected by the detector. An adjuster adjusts a quality of the image taken by the taker with reference to an estimated result of the estimator.12-22-2011
20130188880COMPUTER-READABLE RECORDING MEDIUM STORING IMAGE ACCUMULATING PROGRAM, METHOD AND APPARATUS - A computer-readable recording medium storing a program for causing a computer to execute an image accumulating procedure, the procedure includes: specifying a second image similar to a first image that is associated with text information; displaying the second image in an identifiable manner, and the text information on a display device; and storing the text information associated with image information that is related to the second image, based on instruction information that instructs a use of the text information with respect to the second image.07-25-2013
