20150298400 | Thermoplastic Prepreg Containing Continuous and Long Fibers - A prepreg that contains a plurality of unidirectionally aligned continuous fibers embedded within a thermoplastic polymer matrix is provided. In addition to continuous fibers, the prepreg also contains a plurality of long fibers that are combined with the continuous fibers so that they are randomly distributed within the thermoplastic matrix. As a result, at least a portion of the long fibers become oriented at an angle (e.g., perpendicular) relative to the direction of the continuous fibers. Through such orientation, the long fibers can substantially increase the mechanical properties of the prepreg in the transverse direction (e.g., strength) and thus achieve a more isotropic material. Although unique isotropic prepregs are one aspect of the present invention, it should be understood that this is not a requirement. In fact, one notable feature of the present invention is the ability to tailor the mechanical properties of the prepreg for an intended application by selectively controlling certain process parameters, such as the type of long fibers employed, the type of continuous fibers employed, the concentration of the long fibers, the concentration of the continuous fibers, the thermoplastic resin(s) employed, etc. | 10-22-2015 |

20080290548 | Pellet mill die and pelletizing process - An improved pellet mill is shown which has an annular die of the kind having a multiplicity of radial bores through which raw material is extruded to form pellets. The annular body of the die has an inner circumferential surface which defines a compression side of the die, and an outer circumferential surface which defines a discharge side of the die. The compression side and discharge side of the body are separated by a thickness therebetween with the radial bores extending through the thickness from the compression side to the discharge side thereof. Each die hole begins as a countersink region on the compression side of the die body. The countersink region leads to a compression hole which communicates with the discharge side of the die body. 20090309256 | Method for stabilizing the spinning solution for production of cellulose composite molded bodies - The invention stabilizes spinning solutions used to produce cellulose composite molded bodies incorporating functional materials by the dry-wet extrusion method. The invention incorporates active materials detrimentally affecting the spinning process and materials which are unstable in the cellulose spinning solution, using separate active material and cellulose streams. The active material stream is produced, stabilized and stored separately and mixed with the cellulose stream directly before the forming apparatus, for example, a spinning bar. The active material stream includes amine oxide, functional materials, additives and water. The cellulose stream includes cellulose in amine oxide. The inventive method avoids heat build-up in the moulding or spinning solution, produces cellulose molded bodies with an adequately high degree of polymerisation and excellent functional properties and restricts the decomposition of the amine oxide.
