20090194899 | Adjustable air shield for skewed godet rolls - The present invention relates to an adjustable air shield for skewed godet rolls. The air shield can be any blocking type plate with or without perforations. Furthermore, these air shields may be placed in close proximity to the pair of skewed, relax rolls in the relax zone of a fiber producing process. The plates are positioned on the inside of the threadline so that the airflow is substantially reduced around the threadline on the skewed rolls. The preferred embodiment of the present invention is one or more skewed godet rolls in the relax area of the fiber production process with air shields positioned on the inside of the fiber string up (threadline) between the pair of skewed rolls, such that the gap between any roll and any air shield is uniform and constant. | 08-06-2009 |
20100230850 | METHOD OF MANUFACTURE OF ONE-PIECE COMPOSITE PARTS USING A TWO-PIECE FORM INCLUDING A SHAPED POLYMER THAT DOES NOT DRAW WITH A RIGID INSERT DESIGNED TO DRAW - A polymer is formed into the shape of a one-piece composite part and then solidified by curing, setting, hardening or otherwise solidifying the polymer to form a shaped polymer form having a shape that does not draw. Composite material is laid up on the form and solidified to from the composite part. The rigidity required of the form to lay up the composite part can he provided by operating in the polymer form's glassy state, forming the shaped polymer form with a hollow core and placing a rigid insert designed to draw inside the hollow core with the polymer form in its elastomeric state or through a combination of both. In its elastomeric state the form becomes pliable (without relaxing to a different memorized shape) and can he drawn out of the one-piece composite part. Because the shape of the form does not draw, the form deforms as it is drawn. If used, the rigid insert is drawn out prior to removing the shaped polymer form. Upon removal, the polymer form in its elastomeric state returns to its original shape. The form may be used once and thrown away or reused to form multiple composite parts of the same shape. | 09-16-2010 |

20110272848 | Non-fibrous high modulus ultra high molecular weight polyethylene tape for ballistic applications - A process for the production of a non-fibrous ultra high molecular weight polyethylene tape having a width of 1-inch or greater and a modulus of 1,400 grams per denier or greater. The non-fibrous UHMWPE tape is obtained by compression molding ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene powder at a temperature below its melting point and then drawing and stretching the entire resultant compression molded UHMWPE sheet, with no slitting or splitting of the sheet, at a draw ratio of at least 100:1. The UHMWPE tape can be produced in weights of 6,000 to 90,000 denier or greater. The UHMWPE tape of the present invention minimizes the effect of stress concentrators that are prevalent with fibers and thereby enables the tape to be drawn at much higher draw ratios than is possible with fibrous UHMWPE. When used in ballistics panels, the high modulus high molecular weight polyethylene tape of the present invention improves ballistic performance by providing enhanced dissipation of the impact energy of a projectile. | 11-10-2011 |

20140117581 | METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR PRODUCING A PLASTIC PROFILE HAVING A REINFORCEMENT - In the pultrusion of reinforced plastic profiles in strand form, the strands of the reinforcement are brought together in a positioning device and subsequently embedded in the plastic. The pulling of the strands of the reinforcement through the positioning device leads to an unwanted contraction and uncontrolled positioning of the reinforcement in the plastic profile. The invention envisages forming the positioning device by multiple successive positioning means, of which at least some positioning means can be periodically moved forward in the direction of production and also moved back counter to the direction of production. As a result, there is an alternating tensioning and compression of individual regions of the reinforcement. This makes exact positioning of the reinforcement in the plastic profile possible and prevents contraction of the reinforcement. | 05-01-2014 |
