20090127000 | Sectional drive and coupling system - A sectional drive and coupling system for transmitting rotational power to an output, which system includes multiple, splined drive and receiving segments that are connected, nested and interlocked in the ends of successive segment housings to define a drive string that is rotatable in a selected straight or curved path. The top one of the segments cooperates with a drive mechanism to effect rotation of the drive string in concert and the bottom one of the segments connects to an output such as a drill bit. Multiple, tapered and truncated exterior splines on the drive segments mesh with complementary interior splines on the adjacent receiving segments in the segment housings to enable slight angular positioning of the sets of drive and receiving segments on each other and facilitate dampening of drive vibration and bending of the drive string in or out of the chosen path in any desired direction as the drive string transmits rotational power in a curved path of desired magnitude from the drive mechanism to the output. The drive and receiving segments are typically connected internally by a bolt, nuts and belleville springs at the ends of the housings to form the drive string. In one embodiment a drill bit is mounted on the bottom one of the segments on the drive string for interval drilling. In another embodiment a selected number of drive and receiving segments and connected segment housings replace the flexible drive shaft coupling in a mud motor. | 05-21-2009 |
20130068531 | LARGE CORE SIDEWALL CORING - A coring tool having a coring mechanism for cutting cores from a borehole sidewall. The coring mechanism comprises a motor having a coring bit to cut 1.5 inch diameter, 2.5 inch long cores. Support plates fixed to the housing comprise guide slots having a longer leg and a shorter leg. Leading pins and follower pins extend from the motor into the guide slots. When the leading and follower pins are driven along the guide slots, the motor is rotated and then pushed into the formation. Drive plates positioned between the housing and the support plates comprise slots and pivot about a pin. The leading pins further extend into the drive plate slots. A hydraulic cylinder pivots the drive plates, pushing the pins along the guide slots to rotate the motor to a radial position and then urge the motor towards the formation. | 03-21-2013 |

20130277118 | METHOD FOR OPERATING A HORIZONTAL DRILLING DEVICE AND HORIZONTAL DRILLING DEVICE - A horizontal drilling device according to the invention includes a linear drive, a rotary drive that can be displaced by means of the linear drive, a drill rod assembly and a rod assembly receiver, the drill rod assembly being hollow and the rod assembly receiver being designed as a receiving mandrel, which allows the drill rod assembly to be placed on the receiving mandrel | 10-24-2013 |
20140090898 | Casing Drilling Bottom Hole Assembly Having Wireless Power And Data Connection - Various embodiments of methods and systems for wireless power and/or data communications transmissions to a sensor subassembly above a mud motor in a bottom hole assembly are disclosed. Power and/or data are supplied by rotary modulator and power generation system positioned above the mud motor. Wires may connect to an annular coil. Power and/or communications are transmitted through the annular coil to an inductively coupled second, mandrel coil that is attached to the rotor. By leveraging resonantly tuned circuits and impedance matching techniques for the coils, power and/or data can be transmitted efficiently from one coil to the other despite relative movement and misalignment of the two coils. | 04-03-2014 |
