20100116488TUBING HANGER WITH INTEGRAL ANNULUS SHUTOFF VALVE - Apparatus and method for isolating an annular bore below a tubing hanger body disposed in a wellhead assembly. The hanger body is characterized by at least two annulus flowby passages that are capable of fluid communication with areas outside the hanger body through the central bore of the hanger body. An integral valve piston is disposed within the central bore of the hanger body, and is operable to axially displace within the central bore between a closed and opened position. The displacement of the piston is caused by the alternating introduction of pressurizing fluid into separate actuation chambers. In the closed position, the piston is positioned so that at least one of the flowby passages is sealingly engaged in a manner that prevents fluid flow through the hanger body from outside sources such as an annulus bore located below the hanger body.05-13-2010
20110139435CASING MAKE-UP AND RUNNING TOOL ADAPTED FOR FLUID AND CEMENT CONTROL - The apparatus of the present invention provides a top drive supported tool for making up and running casing strings into a borehole. The tool comprises a fill-up and circulation assembly and a launcher assembly that is adapted to cooperate with a connectable cement wiper plug assembly for launching wiper plugs that control cement placement in the annulus between a casing string and a borehole containing the casing string. The tool of the present invention shortens or eliminates delays in well operations, thereby improving integrity of cement liners formed by placing cement slurry in a targeted interval.06-16-2011

20110265987Downhole Actuator Apparatus Having a Chemically Activated Trigger - A downhole actuator apparatus that selectively maintains a pressure differential between two pressure regions in a well. The apparatus includes a body defining first and second chambers. A piston is slidably disposed in the body and is selectively moveable between first and second positions. A barrier is disposed in the body to selectively separate the first and second chambers. A fluid is disposed in the first chamber between the barrier and the piston. A control system that is at least partially disposed within the body is operable to generate an output signal responsive to receipt of a predetermined input signal. The output signal is operable to create a failure of the barrier such that at least a portion of the fluid flows from the first chamber to the second chamber and the piston moves from the first position to the second position.11-03-2011

20090242190Downhole Shock Absorber with Crushable Nose - A downhole shock absorber preferably is filled with well fluid in a chamber that is reduced in volume due to impact. A rupture disc can hold the initial non-compressible liquid charge until impact. Upon impact, the rupture disc breaks to allow the fluid to be forced through an orifice to absorb some of the shock that occurs when a string hits a fixed object after dropping in the wellbore. The nose of the shock absorber is a soft material that has voids so that the combination of the softness of the material and the voids allow the nose to reshape until it encounters a surrounding tubular wall and then to collapse inwardly into the voids, making it simple to remove. The nose is releasably mounted to the shock absorber so the two can separate if the nose gets stuck after impact.10-01-2009
20080223572Method for drilling and casing a wellbore with a pump down cement float - A cement float collar is disclosed that can be positioned downhole and used in a wellbore completion operation after drilling a wellbore with casing. A wellbore drilling and completion method is also disclosed. The cement float collar is made for pumping downhole and into engagement with a groove formed in the casing, called the profile nipple. As such, no restriction is needed in the casing for accepting or latching the float collar and the portion of casing including the groove can be installed at the start of the drilling operation. In addition, the profile nipple can be used to engage other drilling tools and, therefore, can already be in place when the final well depth (TD) is reached.09-18-2008
