Expandable Bone Implant - An expendable bone implant has a first member with a coronal end portion configured for supporting a prosthesis. A second member is at least partially porous, engages the first member, and is configured to expand outwardly upon a longitudinal force being applied to at least one of the first and second members. This anchors the implant in bone before mastication forces are applied to the implant. | 05-24-2012
Porous Implant Device With Improved Core - An implant device has an exterior portion forming an exterior surface of the implant. The exterior portion is made of a porous material defining passages through the exterior portion. An inner portion has an outer surface with a treated area that is accessible from the exterior surface through the passages. The treated area has a treatment for direct attachment to bone or soft tissue. | 05-26-2011
DEVICE FOR LIMITING THE DRILLING DEPTH OF A DRILL - A stop is used for limiting the drill depth of an osteotomy drill bit within a bore in bone. This stop may have a generally tubular body for being releasably mounted on the drill bit and have a cam slot disposed at the body and used for defining a plurality of axial positions. The cam slot is configured for releasably securing a cam follower associated with a drill assembly that extends radially relative to a longitudinal axis of the drill bit assembly to axially secure the stop to the drill bit assembly. Additionally, the stop includes an apical end section that is configured to engage bone adjacent to the bore and limit the apical motion of the drill bit. | 03-03-2011
Ceramic/Metallic Dental Abutment - A ceramic/metallic dental abutment for use with an implant, the abutment generally including a ceramic body portion having a base region, a transgingival region, and a supragingival region. The base region includes an anti-rotational implant interface, such as an external polygonal fitting, for engaging a cooperating internal polygonal fitting of an implant to prevent relative rotation between the abutment and the implant. The ceramic abutment body portion additionally includes a metal implant contact portion for contacting the implant and providing a load-bearing, metal-on-metal interface between the abutment and the implant. | 01-27-2011
Dental Implant Surgical Training Simulation System - A bone implant surgery system is used for simulating a dental surgical procedure having a display that shows placing a simulated bone implant at a simulated implant site on a living body by using a simulated surgical tool holding the simulated bone implant. At least one hand-held haptic device is used to control the surgical tool and at least one controller is specifically configured to cause movement of the surgical tool on the display based on motions of the haptic device and to cause haptic feedback to a user holding the haptic device depending on the position of the surgical tool on the display. A user may then review and evaluate the results of the surgical simulation. | 12-09-2010
DENTAL DRILL GUIDE SYSTEM - A dental drill guide system, including a handpiece guide which interfaces with a custom surgical guide. The custom surgical guide may be designed based on patient-specific data, such as medical images, for example, and fits conformingly over at least a portion of the patient's dentition at the implant site. The handpiece guide is attachable to an existing dental handpiece, and includes a guide protrusion that interfaces with a guide receptacle of the surgical guide to position and guide the movement of the drill along a desired trajectory. The guide receptacle may have a curved shape to allow for varying the position of the handpiece to aid surgeon access in the drilling procedure. | 07-08-2010
PROCEDURE SPECIFIC STORAGE BLOCK FOR HOLDING IMPLANT CONTAINERS AND SURGICAL TOOLS - A storage device is provided for holding bone implant surgery articles. The storage device includes a body defining a plurality of openings capable of holding at least one rotatable drill bit that may be mounted on a drill and used to form a bore in bone and at least one implant container that holds an implant capable of being placed in the bore. | 02-04-2010
METHOD OF MERGING ANATOMICAL DATA AND SURFACE DATA OF A PATIENT'S DENTITION - A method of obtaining and merging volumetric data and surface data of a patient's dentition for use in designing and/or manufacturing a prosthodontic component, such as a drill guide, an implant, or other prosthodontic appliance, for example. A plurality of radio-opaque markers are temporarily secured directly to a patient's dentition. Surface data is then obtained, such as by scanning the patient's dentition with the markers or alternatively, by taking an impression of the patient's dentition with the markers, forming a physical model that includes analogs of the markers, and scanning the physical model. Either before or after the surface data is obtained, an anatomical, volumetric image data set of the patient's dentition is obtained via a volumetric scan of the patient's dentition with the markers appearing in the image data set. The markers appearing in both the volumetric data set and the surface data set are used by suitable computer software to merge the volumetric and surface data sets to form a merged image data set and to generate a combined model of the patient's dentition from which a surgical drill guide or other prosthodontic appliance may be designed and manufactured. | 09-03-2009
