Before entering a mask, a hood or a suit worn by the user, air is exposed, in a sterilization unit, to Ultra-Violet C-band (UVC) radiation. Advantageously, the UVC radiation is lethal to undesirable germs, viruses and other pathogens. In this manner, pathogen-free air may be provided to the user. Bulbs used to generate UVC radiation are known to also promote the creation of ozone. Accordingly, the personal protection system includes means to minimize the ozone in the air that ultimately reaches the user.
