20120109173SYSTEM FOR TREATING THE PROSTATE - The invention comprises a system to alleviate conditions such as prostate cancer, benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), and the like. The system includes a probe for mechanically cutting tissue and a device for simultaneously tamponading, inducing hemostasis, and dilating a plurality of lumens while minimizing inflammation. The tamponading device has a plurality of balloons configured for inflation with a coolant fluid. Other components of the system include a luminally protective sheath, a microscopic end cauterizing probe, a surgical console, an identification-sensitive self-sealed cassette, and a plurality of flexible tubing lines with pinch valves thereon.05-03-2012
20120108937METHOD FOR TREATING THE PROSTATE - The invention comprises a method for treating a prostate to alleviate prostate cancer, benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), and other conditions. The method involves inserting a tool to create a small self-sealing puncture site through tissue to gain access to a portion of a prostate, inserting a probe though the puncture site into the prostate, activating the probe to treat the prostate, withdrawing the probe and inspecting a surgical site for a flow of urine or semen to determine whether a sufficient amount of prostate tissue has been treated, and inspecting for hemostasis. The method may also include delivering a luminally protective sheath before inserting any instruments, using a template to guide insertion of the probe, and delivery of tamponading balloons to assist with attainment of hemostasis after the coring procedure.05-03-2012
20090270907Retrievable urethra sparing prosthetic stent and kidney stone intervention system - The present invention provides devices, a system, and a method for removing kidney stones from the urinary system of a patient with reduced pain and expenses. The system includes expandable, elongated balloon sheaths that deliver and retrieve forceps and a urethral sparing prosthetic stent. The stent is reconstrainable with interwoven nylon strands that are strategically positioned amongst the struts to ensure smooth collapse for removal. An atraumatic coating of PTFE or PET lining on the stent extends from the struts through the tip of the penis to assist patients in passing stones while the stent is in place at the bladder neck. The stent can stay in place for several days while permitting urine drainage. The basket-shaped forceps device has multiple curved, rigid arms to dilate the urethra and capture occluded or embedded stones with a built-in camera. The method is for removing stones through a protected urethral canal.10-29-2009
20090270791Benign prostatic hyperplasia surgical system featuring mechanical coring probe with live aspiration - The invention comprises an atherectomy probe for mechanically cutting core prostatic tissue to alleviate the condition of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) or for use in orthopedic procedures. The blade shapes and lengths are adaptable but in a preferred embodiment the device includes an end-cutting bur tip. The cutting motion may be one of: guillotine (incising between two parallel edges), radial reciprocating (changing radial directions and cuts between two horizontal edges), circular (continuously radial in one direction), and end-cutting, etc. The power source used to drive the blade may be one of: pneumatic, hydraulic, manual mechanical, electrical, solar, etc. The probe also includes several channels that may be used for providing live aspiration and removal of severed tissue and fluids, as well as insufflation of gases and optionally, pharmaceuticals and/or a secondary therapy. The instrument is designed for use in open, endoscopic, and minimally invasive transurethral or transperineal surgical procedures.10-29-2009
