20110299079METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR HIGH VOLUME SAMPLE RATE HOLOGRAPHIC PARTICLE MEASUREMENT - Methods and systems for measuring particles within a flow are provided. An aircraft transports a high volume sample rate holographic measurement instrument through a particle-containing volume of interest along a reference axis X (time). As the instrument moves relative to the volume of interest, the holographic measurement instrument transmits a collimated light beam across the volume of interest along an optical axis Z. The light beam interacts with particles contained within the volume of interest, and a high-speed, one-dimensional detector array detects incident light reflecting patterns of light intensity levels that are associated with the interaction between the light beam and the particles. A processor integrates information relating to the detected patterns and a rate of relative movement between the measurement probe and the volume of interest to determine at least a statistically meaningful sampling of time-dependent particle distribution information associated with an entirety of the volume of interest. Using the time-dependent particle distribution information and automatic reconstruction algorithms running on the processor, the processor reconstructs holograms that depict the particles within the volume of interest. These holograms are then used to measure a spatial distribution, size distribution, number density or concentration, and/or shape of the particles within the volume of interest.12-08-2011
20110170797OPTICAL DEVICE FOR CORRECTING GEOSTATIONARY SATELLITE IMAGERY FOR EARTH CURVATURE EFFECTS - An optical adapter for an imaging system correcting images of spherical or near spherical bodies such as the earth during satellite image collection. An imaging system includes an image collector that collects a two-dimensional image of the body from a distance above the body such as from a satellite in geostationary orbit. The collected image is disk shaped and includes distortion due to earth curvature, primarily in the form of a loss of resolution due to the foreshortening of earth features in a radial direction extending outward from the center of the image disk. The optical adapter receives the collected image, transforms the collected image to correct the distortion, and outputs a corrected image with essentially uniform spatial resolution across the areas for which the correction is applied. An image sensor such as charge-coupled device array senses the corrected image and creates a digital representation of the corrected image.07-14-2011

20110030728RADIOMETER INCLUDING A CLEANING SYSTEM - A radiometer is provided. The radiometer includes a sensor and a radiation transparent dome. The radiation transparent dome surrounds the sensor. The radiometer also includes one or more fluid nozzles. The one or more fluid nozzles are adapted to apply a fluid on the radiation transparent dome in order to clean the surface of the radiation transparent dome.02-10-2011
20100026565METHOD FOR GENERATING A REPRESENTATION OF AN ATMOSPHERIC VORTEX KINEMATIC STRUCTURE - A method for generating a representation of a kinematic structure of an atmospheric vortex is provided. The method comprises receiving a plurality of signals from a Doppler radar. The signals are reflected at a plurality of pulse volumes. The method also comprises measuring a plurality of Doppler velocities based on the received signals. A plurality of scaled Doppler velocities are calculated representing the plurality of measured Doppler velocities, the radial distance between the Doppler radar and the pulse volume where the Doppler velocity is measured, and the distance between the radar and a first estimated atmospheric vortex center. The method also comprises generating a representation of the kinematic structure of the atmospheric vortex using the plurality of scaled Doppler wind velocity values.02-04-2010
