PHOTOCHEMOTHERAPEUTIC HETEROCYCLIC AGENTS HAVING ANTIPROLIFERATIVE AND ANTINEOPLASTIC ACTIVITY - The present invention concerns the synthesis of new analogs of angelicins, pyrrolo [3,2-h]quinoline, for the treatment of pathologies having hyperproliferative character included those having neoplastic nature. The treatment is based on the combined action of pyrrolo [3,2-h]quinolines and UV-A light, through a clinical approach defined as PUVA (psoralen-UVA light). The most important feature of these compounds is that they exert their remarkable photoxicity without any DNA damage, which is the main origin of the side effects of the PUVA therapy. | 05-24-2012
Sensitivity enhancement in grating coupled surface plasmon resonance by azimuthal control - A method and a system for the enhancement of the sensitivity in surface plasmon resonance (SPR) sensors based metallic grating by exploiting the conical configuration is presented. We consider the propagation of surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs) excited by light from the visible to infrared spectrum range, incident on a plasmonic grating at different directions by varying both the zenith and azimuthal angles. For specific azimuthal angles, SPPs propagate in the grating plane perpendicular to the incident light momentum. This is the condition that allows increasing the number of different excited SPPs modes largely. We exploit this effect to increase the sensor sensitivity with the change of refractive index of thin film on the plasmonic grating surface. Polarization effects also contribute to a further modes enhancement and increase the sensitivity. A scheme for a lab-on-chip implementation of a system that allows a parallel detection in microfluidic channels has been shown. | 01-05-2012

The converter circuit also includes a switch coupled to the first side of the transformer. The converter circuit further includes a rectifying diode coupled to the second side of the transformer and to a first output terminal of the converter circuit. In addition, the converter circuit includes a clamping diode coupled to the second side of the transformer, to the rectifying diode, and to a second output terminal of the converter circuit. The converter circuit may include a boost section and a flyback section. The converter circuit may also include an active clamp and an isolated flyback section. | 01-20-2011 |

Field Effect Transistor with Metal-Semiconductor Junction - A MOSFET transistor comprising a substrate of semiconductor material having a source junction connected to a source electrode, a drain junction connected to a drain electrode, and a gate layer connected to a gate electrode, the source junction or the drain junction being a metal-semiconductor junction. | 04-15-2010
METHOD FOR THE AUTOMATED MEASUREMENT OF GAS PRESSURE AND CONCENTRATION INSIDE SEALED CONTAINERS - The device comprises a laser source which emits a beam of a predetermined wavelength towards an optically transparent closed container and detectors arranged to detect the laser beam which is attenuated by the gas absorption. The detectors provide the first data of absorption representative of a first absorption spectrum of the gas including distorted absorption lines and noise. The invention implements a method of calculation aimed at receiving and elaborating said first data. The output of the operation are parameters that represent a second absorption spectrum free of noise and distortion in the absorption lines. From these parameters we are able to determine the gas pressure and concentration in the container. | 03-18-2010
Apparatus and Method for the Identification of a Subject Memory Trace and for the Intention Prevision - An apparatus and method for the identification of a subject's memory trace and for intention prediction use a procedure for acquiring information by means of administering to the subject a series of tests; the apparatus records the answers and the reaction times of the subject and it elaborates the results in order to give, with an accuracy of 92%, the memory trace or the intention of the subject. The apparatus and method give the possibility to avoid or identify maligners and fakers. | 01-21-2010

Electrocatalysts Based on Mono/Plurimetallic Carbon Nitrides for Fuel Cells Fueled with Hydrogen - The invention describes the preparation of electrocatalysts, both anodic (aimed at the oxidation of the fuel) and cathodic (aimed at the reduction of the oxygen), based on mono- and plurimetallic carbon nitrides to be used in PEFC (Polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells), DMFC (Direct methanol fuel cells) and H2 electrogenerators. The target of the invention is to obtain materials featuring a controlled metal composition based on carbon nitride clusters or on carbon nitride clusters supported on oxide-based ceramic materials. The preparation protocol consists of three steps. In the first the precursor is obtained through reactions of the type: a) sol-gel; b) gel-plastic; c) coagulation-flocculation-precipitation. The second step consists of the thermal treatments to decompose the precursors in an inert atmosphere leading to the production of the carbon nitrides. In the last step the chemical and electro-chemical activation of the electrocatalysts is performed. Precursors are obtained through reactions leading to: a) the complexation of a “soft” transition metal with a coordination complex acting as a ligand to obtain clusters; b) | 04-30-2009
TGF-Beta Modulators and Use Thereof - The present invention relates to molecules preferably of polypeptide nature with negative regulatory activity on the amount or activity of TGF-β through direct interaction with pro-TGF-β, and containing as active region a cysteine-rich polypeptide sequence defined as “EMI domain”, or its subfragments, wherein said “EMI domain” has at least 25% sequence homology to the ID NO2 sequence for pharmaceutical use. Even more preferably said polypeptide sequence consists of the EMI domain of the following proteins: emilin-1, emilin-2 and/or multimerin-2 or their subfragments having a length of at least 6 amino acids, capable of inhibiting the conversion of pro-TGFβ to mature TGFβ as anti-hypertensive drugs and polypeptides active on the cardiovascular system. The invention extends to the use of molecules which are known to negatively regulate TGF-β and to molecules which interfere with TGF-β binding to its receptors, or to inhibitors of TGF-β mRNA synthesis or TGF-β expression for the same therapeutic uses as anti-hypertensive drugs and polypeptides active on the cardiovascular system. | 02-05-2009
