20150272194 | METHOD FOR PRODUCING SURIMI WITH REDUCED LOSS OF MYOFIBRILLAR PROTEIN - A method for washing fish flesh to remove water soluble sarcoplasmic proteins includes producing a mixture by combining wash water with fish flesh having sarcoplasmic and myofibrillar proteins, wherein the wash water removes some of the sarcoplasmic protein from the fish flesh; depositing the mixture on a screen separator. The wash water having sarcoplasmic proteins is separated from the mixture while a speed of the screen separator and a speed of the mixture at the interface with the screen separator remains about equal and reducing or eliminating shear forces at the interface between the screen separator and the fish flesh. Thus, washed fish flesh fish flesh with an increase in a percent of myofibrillar protein retained in the fish flesh is produced. In order to have a speed of the screen separator belt be equal with a speed of the mixture at the interface, the perforated screen separator is stationary, vibrating only in the up and down direction, advancing slowly or fast, or advancing only intermittently, while the wash water is allowed to percolate through the fish flesh and exit the perforated screen. | 10-01-2015 |
20130309359 | PUFFED PET TREAT WITH CRUNCHY TEXTURE - An animal protein-based dog treat has a soft crunch and a stable shelf life without use of an appreciable amount of sodium or chemical preservatives. A method of producing the dog treat entails use of extrusion and heating processes to trap moisture in the interior of the dog treat, and then to expand and evaporate the moisture. This process creates in an internal portion of the dog treat voids or air pockets that provide desired texture and strength characteristics. | 11-21-2013 |
20120076914 | VISCOUS LIQUID DIETARY SUPPLEMENT - Fish oil is thickened using a thickening agent, such as one or more of silica wax, and a plant-based thickener dispersed in the fish oil to thereby facilitate ease of delivery of the fish oil to an animal. The fish oil and the thickening agent form a viscous liquid blend that functions as a delivery medium of nutrients naturally present in the fish oil. The thickening agent is inert to the animal and chemically inert to the fish oil so that the naturally present nutrients of the fish oil are not substantially degraded by the thickening agent. The viscous liquid blend may also be used as a carrier liquid to deliver an added dietary supplement to the animal. | 03-29-2012 |
