20120101654METHOD FOR SAFELY PARKING VEHICLE NEAR OBSTACLES - Method, storage medium and system of optimizing a destination for a vehicle by obtaining a map corresponding to a desired destination of the vehicle and identifying objectives of the map based on multiple parameters including collision avoidance, driver time, legal constraints and social consensus. A cost function is constructed to determine an optimal destination based on a proximity to the desired destination and the identified objectives, and an optimal destination is identified by minimizing a value of the cost function.04-26-2012
20120096969DRIVER-ADAPTIVE METHOD FOR VEHICLE ACTUATION WITH STEERING WHEEL CONTROLS - A steering wheel and associated control system to execute a corresponding algorithm, the steering wheel including a rim which is rotatable about a first axis to steer a vehicle, and a throttle dial disposed in a surface of the rim. The throttle dial controls a throttle of the vehicle and has a variable output to control an amount of the throttle in proportion to an amount the throttle dial is displaced from a nil output position. A similar brake dial is also provided, and is also disposed in the surface of the rim at another location, thus providing hand operation of a throttle and brake of a vehicle without having to remove one's hands from the steering wheel.04-26-2012
20110168223THERMOELECTRIC APPLICATION FOR WASTE HEAT RECOVERY FROM SEMICONDUCTOR DEVICES IN POWER ELECTRONICS SYSTEMS - In a power electronics system of a next generation vehicle, a power module is provided including a thermoelectric device which is provided in a thermally conductive path between a power device and a cooling plate such that the thermoelectric device creates useful electric power from the waste heat of the power device.07-14-2011
20110074916ELECTRONIC CONTROL SYSTEM, ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT AND ASSOCIATED METHODOLOGY OF ADAPTING 3D PANORAMIC VIEWS OF VEHICLE SURROUNDINGS BY PREDICTING DRIVER INTENT - An electronic control system, electronic control unit and an associated methodology for adapting three dimensional panoramic views of vehicle surroundings by predicting driver intent are provided. A plurality of cameras mounted on a vehicle generate images of a surrounding area of the vehicle. A visual sensor detects a three dimensional profile of an occupant of the vehicle. An electronic control unit generates a three dimensional panoramic view based on the images generated by the plurality of cameras, determines three dimensional locations and orientations of a plurality of body parts of the occupant of the vehicle based on the three dimensional profile detected by the visual sensor, and adapts the three dimensional panoramic view based on the determined three dimensional locations and orientations. A display unit displays the adapted three dimensional panoramic view.03-31-2011
20100274430DETECTION OF TOPOLOGICAL STRUCTURE FROM SENSOR DATA WITH APPLICATION TO AUTONOMOUS DRIVING IN SEMI-STRUCTURED ENVIRONMENTS - A method of creating an obstacle-free diagram using topological sensor data to form a graph corresponding to a driving path, transforming the graph using discrete heuristics, locally smoothing a plurality of edges of the graph after the transforming, and globally smoothing the graph after the locally smoothing. Transforming includes deleting an edge of the graph, merging two intersections of the graph into a single intersection, and collapsing a plurality of edges forming a loop into a single edge. Locally smoothing includes smoothing a lane segment of the graph by minimizing a sum of a function of smoothness and a function of distance. Globally smoothing includes defining an intersection potential and minimizing a sum of the function of smoothness, the function of distance, a function of intersections and a function of direction.10-28-2010
20100217744METHOD AND SYSTEM TO RECOGNIZE TEMPORAL EVENTS USING ENHANCED TEMPORAL DECISION TREES - An enhanced temporal decision tree is described that allows a temporal feature to be tested at a node not merely at a given time instant but, rather, over a time window. Further, the recorded temporal data can be multi-source, with features recorded from multiple sources; multi-resolution, through subsampling; multi-scale, based on varying time windows; and multi-domain, through sampling in the frequency domain, for example. By allowing features to be tested over a time window, enhanced temporal decision trees can be used to classify any temporal data or time series.08-26-2010
