20120091013VOC or Compressed Gas Containment Device Made From A Polyoxymethylene Polymer - VOC or compressed gas containment devices, such as polymer fuel tanks, are made from a polyoxymethylene polymer composition. The polymer composition contains a polyoxymethylene polymer that is directly or indirectly chemically attached to an impact modifier. In one embodiment, for instance, a coupling agent bonds the impact modifier to the polyoxymethylene polymer. In order to preserve the permeability of the polymer material when combined with the impact modifier, a polyoxymethylene polymer is used that contains a low level of low molecular weight constituents.04-19-2012
20120082811Fluid-Assisted Injection Molded Articles and Process - Fluid-assisted injection molding articles and processes for producing the articles are described. In one embodiment, a fluid-assisted injection molded article is formed from a polymeric composition containing a polyethylene terephthalate homopolymer in combination with a polyethylene terephthalate copolymer. The polyethylene terephthalate copolymer may comprise a copolymer of polyethylene terephthalate with isophthalic acid. The polymeric composition can also contain a reinforcing agent, such as glass fibers. Products made in accordance with the present disclosure have shown dramatically improved surface characteristics. In particular, pitting on the surface of the molded article is minimized.04-05-2012
20110305860Blow Molded Articles and Process For Making Same - Blow molded articles are made from a polymeric composition containing a polyphenylene sulfide resin. The composition can further contain a reinforcing agent, such as glass fibers, and a combination of an organosilane coupling agent and an impact modifier. It was discovered that the combination of the aminosilane coupling agent and the impact modifier substantially increased the low shear viscosity and melt strength of the composition without increasing the high shear viscosity of the composition. The increase in the low shear viscosity makes the composition particularly well suited to molding articles with a complex shape. When producing blow molded articles, for instance, the composition provides better control over wall thickness while having improved interior surface smoothness at higher throughput and extrusion rates.12-15-2011
20110228808SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR COLLECTING AND ANALYZING THE MEASUREMENTS AND OBSERVATIONS REQUIRED DURING FLAMMABILITY TESTING - A system and method are disclosed for collecting and analyzing the measurements and observations required during flammability testing of materials. The system may include one or more input devices for electronically providing one or more timing signals related to a timing sequence of a specified flammability test and one or more attribute signals related to selected attributes of a test specimen. Additionally, a timing device may be coupled to the one or more input devices. The timing device may be configured to perform one or more time interval measurements based on the one or more timing signals. Further, a computing device may be coupled to the timing device. The computing device may be configured to analyze the one or more time interval measurements and the one or more attribute signals to determine a flammability classification for the test specimen in accordance with the specified flammability test.09-22-2011
20110034610Low Formaldehyde Emission Polyacetal Composition - A polymeric composition containing a polyacetal resin in conjunction with a formaldehyde inhibiting agent is described. The formaldehyde inhibiting agent comprises an aluminum pigment. The aluminum pigment may comprise elemental aluminum, such as aluminum flakes that cannot only drastically reduce formaldehyde emissions from the composition but can also give the composition a metallic appearance. In one embodiment, the aluminum pigment may be combined with the polyacetal resin in conjunction with an unhindered phenol and/or a polyethylene resin. In order to further reduce formaldehyde emissions, in one embodiment, a formaldehyde scavenger comprising a nitrogen containing compound can also be added.02-10-2011
20080300355Process For Forming Improved Fiber Reinforced Composites and Composites Therefrom - The present disclosure relates to long-fiber-reinforced two-phase incompatible matrix-fiber composites which include fibers wetted completely by an incompatible mixture of thermoplastic materials. The resin mixture generally includes a polyester oligomer/polymer combination and a high polymer thermoplastic resin. The composites of the disclosure exhibit a reduced level of fiber attrition after melt-processing into articles, and show substantial improvements in mechanical properties.12-04-2008
20080258337Polyether Ether Ketone/Polyphenylene Sulfide Blend - The present description discloses a polymeric composition which is a melt-processed alloy comprised of (a) a polyarylene sulfide resin, (b) a polyaryl-ether-ketone resin, and a reactive compound which results in (c) a graft copolymer of the polyarylene sulfide resin and/or the polyaryl-ether-ketone resin in addition to the starting resins. Exemplary melt-processed polymeric compositions can be made by reacting an alkoxy silane with the polyarylene sulfide resin and/or the polyaryl-ether-ketone resin to produce a graft copolymer of a portion of one or both of the resins, sufficient to render the composition uniform and homogeneous. It is normally preferred for the exemplary organosilane compound, to be an amino silane. The subject invention further reveals an insulated wire comprising (1) an electrical conductor and (2) a layer of the melt-processed alloy composition; and fiber reinforced composites comprising fibers substantially fully impregnated with the alloy polymeric composition.10-23-2008
