20120037759CARGO SUSPENSION FRAME FOR AIRCRAFT - The bottom surface of an aircraft, such as an Osprey V-22 propeller driven aircraft, has at least four distributed hook attachment points. A load suspension apparatus is attached to the four attachment points with elongated slings. The load suspension apparatus includes an upper rigid frame and a lower rigid frame of lesser dimensions. The lower frame is suspended from the upper frame with V-shaped slings. A cargo load is attached to the lower frame. The load suspension apparatus provides stable attachment of loads to tilt wing and rotary wing aircraft at high aircraft speeds, at transitions between high and low speeds and through aircraft turns.02-16-2012
20120012348FIRE EXTINGUISHER SYSTEM FOR WHEEL WELL - A fire extinguisher comprises an elongated tube. The elongated tube has a pressure-tight, thermoplastic exterior tubular wall and an axially parallel, flame resistant inner wall. The inner tubular wall defines a chamber and the wall has ports through the wall at regular intervals along the length and around the circumference providing fluid communication between the chamber and the exterior tubular wall for a quantity of fire extinguishing fluid under pressure in the chamber. The thermoplastic exterior wall ruptures on contact with flame. The inner tubular wall remains intact and fire extinguishing agent discharges through the ports to extinguish the fire. The apparatus is actuated by contact with flame and requires no actuation by the vehicle crew.01-19-2012
20110319601Inorganic Particle Conjugates - The ionic conjugates include an inorganic particle electrostatically associated with a macromolecule which can interact specifically with predetermined chemical species or biological targets.12-29-2011
20110279334Resonant Cavity Injection-Based Calibration of a Radiant Energy Device - The present invention, as typically embodied, implements an energy source, a transmitting antenna, a receiving antenna, a resonant cavity, and an electricity meter (e.g., voltmeter, ammeter, or power meter) to calibrate an electronic device. Firstly, the receiving antenna is calibrated based on measurement of power that has been generated and transmitted in known quantity, propagated through air, and received by the receiving antenna. Secondly, the resonant cavity is connectively situated between the transmitting antenna and the receiving antenna; the resonant cavity is calibrated based on measurement of power that has been generated and transmitted in the same quantity, propagated through the resonant cavity, and received by the receiving antenna. Thirdly, an electronic device is substituted for the receiving antenna; the electronic device is calibrated based on measurement of power that has been generated and transmitted in the same quantity, propagated through the resonant cavity, and received by the electronic device.11-17-2011
20110279303ACTIVE-RADAR-ASSISTED PASSIVE COMPOSITE IMAGERY FOR AIDING NAVIGATION OR DETECTING THREATS - Typical inventive practice provides for electronic communication of a computer with a display, an active radar device (for transmitting target-location data and environmental data), a light measurement device (for transmitting visual light data), and passive imaging devices covering bands in the visual, infrared (MWIR and/or LWIR), and millimeter wave regions of the electromagnetic spectrum. Inventive software in the computer's memory establishes “operational modes.” Each operational mode is defined at least by a predominant environmental (obscuration and lighting) character, ascribes “modal indices” to individual imaging devices, and carries its own multispectral image fusion algorithm (which, pursuant to the ascribed modal indices, attributes weights to the imaging data from the respective imaging devices). The inventive software aims the imaging devices toward the target, selects an operational mode (based on the environmental data), and executes the image fusion algorithm associated with the selected operational mode so that a fused multispectral image is displayed.11-17-2011
20110037627Modular Units for Synchro-to-Digital Conversion and Digital-to-Synchro Conversion - The inventive data conversion device is typically embodied as a modular unit including a PCBA and a frame that houses it. The PCBA includes a PCB and electronic components mounted thereon including a computer and one or more conventional conversion devices, viz., at least one conventional synchro-to-digital converter and/or at least one conventional digital-to-synchro converter. According to typical inventive synchro-to-digital conversion, analog synchro data (received from a synchro) is converted by the synchro-to-digital converter(s) to lower-level-format parallel-binary-angle digital synchro data, which in turn is converted by the computer to higher-level-format digital synchro data. According to typical inventive digital-to-synchro conversion, higher-level-format digital synchro data (received from a modern-day digital device/system/network) is converted by the computer to lower-level-format parallel-binary-angle digital synchro data, which in turn is converted by the digital-to-synchro converter(s) to analog synchro data.02-17-2011
20100308275Inorganic particle conjugates - The ionic conjugates include an inorganic particle electrostatically associated with a macromolecule which can interact specifically with predetermined chemical species or biological targets.12-09-2010
20100285969IMD-Selective Design of HTS-Based Filters - Intermodulation distortion (IMD) is known to be an impediment to progress in superconductor-based filter technology. The present invention's methodology for reducing IMD can open doors to heretofore unseen practical applications involving high temperature superconductor (HTS) filters. Typical inventive practice includes (a) increasing the thickness d, and/or (b) changing the operation temperature T, of the filter's HTS film. The film's thickness d is increased in such a way as to decrease the IMD power P11-11-2010
20100280968Interactive Pedestrian Routing Method - The present invention's network-based directions-provision methodology typically features the establishment of two ranking schemes that reversely parallel each other. The “personal” ranking scheme ranks all permitted persons in terms of the degree of access permission with respect to the variously ranked regions of a facility; the lower the personal rank, the fewer the regional ranks to which the person is permitted access. The “regional” ranking scheme ranks all accessible regions in terms of the degree of access permission with respect thereto by the variously ranked permitted persons; the higher the regional rank, the fewer the personal ranks that are permitted access to the region. According to typical inventive practice, a permitted person logs in to request directions, within the facility, from an original location to a destination location; the directions given (textual and/or graphical) are the optimal directions that are consistent with the personal rank of the requestor.11-04-2010
20100247012Bearing Apparatus Featuring Electrorheological Fluid Lubrication - The present invention, as variously practiced, implements electrorheological fluid (ERF) as a bearing lubricant. Various modes of an inventive rolling element bearing apparatus provide for electrification of inventive electrode components, viz: (first mode) two annular disk electrodes, opposite each other and perpendicular to the two raceway surfaces; or, (second mode) electrically conductive inner and outer races, having an electrically conductive spacer therebetween; or, (third mode) plural electrodes, radially embedded in a race. An ERF lubricative coating remains on one or both raceway surfaces in accordance with Winslow effect principle (first and second modes) or edge effect principle (third mode). An inventive journal bearing apparatus provides for electrification of electrodes that are axially-longitudinally embedded in a journal bearing member, resulting in establishment of edge effect electric flux lines between adjacent electrode pairs, an ERF lubricative coating thereby remaining on the journal bearing member's inward facing surface, contiguous to the shaft.09-30-2010
20090155836METHODS FOR TREATING HIV INFECTED SUBJECTS - Methods for inducing a population of T cells to proliferate by activating the population of T cells and stimulating an accessory molecule on the surface of the T cells with a ligand which binds the accessory molecule are described. T cell proliferation occurs in the absence of exogenous growth factors or accessory cells. T cell activation is accomplished by stimulating the T cell receptor (TCR)/CD3 complex or the CD2 surface protein. To induce proliferation of an activated population T cells, an accessory molecule on the surface of the T cells, such as CD28, is stimulated with a ligand which binds the accessory molecule. The T cell population expanded by the method of the invention can be genetically transduced and used for immunotherapy or can be used in methods of diagnosis.06-18-2009
