| 20120109798 | METHODS AND APPARATUS FOR MANAGING RENEWABLE ENERGY SERVICES FOR FIXED AND MOBILE ASSETS - Methods and apparatus for managing energy services are disclosed. One method includes determining a quantity of the energy service realized during the connection event; identifying an account associated with the grid connection point; and adjusting the identified account based on the quantity determined. Another method includes receiving an indicator indicating an asset identifier or a grid connection point identifier; determining a location of the asset on the grid based on the indicator; determining operating conditions for realizing the energy service based on the determined location; sending the conditions; identifying an account associated with the point based on the indicator; and adjusting the account based on a quantity of energy services realized by the asset in accordance with the conditions. A computer readable medium includes instructions for determining a quantity of energy services realized during a connection event; identifying an account associated with a connection point; and adjusting the account. | 05-03-2012 |
| 20120106672 | METHODS AND ADAPTERS FOR USE WITH ELECTRIC DEVICES TO MANAGE ENERGY SERVICES - Methods and adapters for realizing energy services by a device via a grid connection point are disclosed. An adapter includes a detection unit for measuring a quantity of energy services realized by a mobile device; an identification unit for detecting the identifier of the grid connection point electrically connected to the device; and a communication unit to report connection event information including: quantity of the energy service realized by the device; an identifier associated with the adapter; and the identifier of the grid connection point. In another embodiment, a method receives an energy service signal indicating operating set points for a mobile device; communicates the indicated operating set points to the device; and measures a quantity of energy services realized by the device. The method communicates quantity information of energy services realized by the device and sends updated operating set points for the device based on the communicated quantity information. | 05-03-2012 |
| 20110221276 | Regulation of Contribution of Secondary Energy Sources to Power Grid - An energy storage medium is combined with a secondary energy source that supplies power to an electricity distribution grid. The charge and discharge behavior of the energy storage medium is controlled so that rapid increases in the output of a secondary source of energy are absorbed by the storage system, whereas rapid decreases in the output of the secondary source are compensated by discharging stored energy onto the grid. The combined contributions of the secondary source and the energy storage system ensures a rate of change that does not exceed a defined level. Maximum and minimum output power levels for the secondary source can be established to define a normal operating range. The charging or discharging of the energy storage system is also performed when the secondary output power level exceeds or falls below the limits of the defined range. | 09-15-2011 |
| 20100090532 | Frequency Responsive Charge Sustaining Control of Electricity Storage Systems for Ancillary Services on an Electrical Power Grid - Systems, apparatus, and methods are provided for maintaining the state of charge of energy storage devices such as batteries, flywheel, capacitors, or other technologies that are energetically coupled with the electricity grid to support ancillary services. To reliably respond to requests to regulate the grid, the charge on the energy storage device is sustained or restored to a specified range in a manner that optimizes the readiness of the energy storage device to supply ancillary services in light of the condition of the grid. A state of charge (SOC) of the energy storage device and the grid frequency may be monitored. When a request from the operator to regulate the grid frequency is not being serviced, the charge of the energy storage device may be increased or decreased so that the charge may be sustained within the specific range. Once the SOC falls outside of the first range, charge may be added to or removed from the energy storage device when the grid frequency has appropriate values, e.g. if the grid frequency is respectively above a first setpoint or below a second setpoint. | 04-15-2010 |
