20120091935METHOD AND APPARATUS TO DRIVE TWO-PHASE MOTORS FROM A THREE-PHASE BRIDGE - A motor drive for driving two-phase motors using a three-phase bridge output stage, and a method of operating the drive. The driven two-phase motor can be a two-phase bipolar motor (such as a hybrid stepping motor). The drive can also be configured so that a single output stage can be used to drive either two-phase or three-phase motors, with or without a feedback sensor. A reference return is provided from one of the three half-bridge output stages with each of the motor phase windings connected between the reference return and one of the other half-bridge outputs. The switches of each half-bridge are modulated so that current can be controlled in each of the two motor phase windings.04-19-2012
20090204236METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR VIBRATION AVOIDANCE FOR AUTOMATED MACHINERY - A method for vibration avoidance in automated machinery produces actuator space-time contours that meet design objectives of the machinery while suppressing energy content at frequencies in the space-time contour, by concatenating multiple space-time contour segments together in such a way as to be mostly free of energy at the frequencies of interest while meeting other specified design goals. The segments used to construct these frequency-optimized-contours are a series of concatenated polynomial segments, the independent variable t being time. These segments can define the variable to be controlled (e.g. speed or distance) versus time, or define one of the controlled variable's time-derivatives (e.g., the slope of the speed vs. time, etc.). When these frequency-optimized-contours are fed as a command to a machine controller through an actuator or actuators, the energy at the frequencies of interest is low enough to avoid deleterious vibration from occurring while still meeting the machine performance objectives.08-13-2009
20090174413Method and Apparatus to Verify the Proper Connection of Loads before Applying Full DC Power - A DC power source or DC switching device that uses a test signal to verify the proper connection of the load (or loads) at its output prior to applying full power to the output. This method and apparatus inserts a low power or low energy test signal at the output terminals of a DC power source and measures the test signal's effect on connected external loads to access the condition and proper connection of these loads before applying full power to the DC output power port. If the test signal detects that a load is connected with a reverse polarity, is shorted, malfunctioning or can otherwise cause damage, it will inhibit the application of full power to the output terminals until the situation is corrected.07-09-2009
20090174382Method and Apparatus to Remove Energy from DC Loads - A DC output power converter or DC switch device that includes methods and apparatus to reverse the current in the connected load, thereby draining the load's energy until the voltage in the load is brought to a (near) zero potential and held there.07-09-2009
20090128347Method and Apparatus for Protection of AC-DC power Converters - An AC-DC power converter controls an external upstream switching device, which supplies it power to be converted. Power conversion is initiated when an external signal requests power be converted or when a program within the AC-DC power converter detects the need for power conversion. When this occurs, the AC-DC power converter signals the external switching device, which is upstream of the AC-DC power converter to turn on, thereby supplying the power to be converted to the AC-DC power converter.05-21-2009
