APPARATUS, AND ASSOCIATED METHOD, FOR FACILITATING QoS AND BEARER SETUP IN AN IP-BASED COMMUNICATION SYSTEM - Apparatus, and an associated method, for generating a bearer setup request in a mobile, or other, communication system. An application-level bearer setup request generator is positioned at the application level of the communication system. A request is forwarded to a transport level. And a bearer setup request signal generator, located at the transport level, generates a transport-level bearer setup request that is routed to the bearer manager. Bearer setup is performed by the bearer manager and a response is provided through the transport layer to the application level, and back to a communication node when the bearer setup is performed. | 11-03-2011
ARRANGING DATA CIPHERING IN A WIRELESS TELECOMMUNICATION SYSTEM - Arranging data ciphering in a telecommunication system comprising at least one wireless terminal, a wireless local area network and a public land mobile network. At least one first ciphering key according to the mobile network is calculated in the mobile network and in the terminal for a terminal identifier using a specific secret key for the identifier. Data transmission between the mobile network and the terminal is carried out through the wireless local area network. A second ciphering key is calculated in the terminal and in the mobile network using said at least one first ciphering key. The second ciphering key is sent from the mobile network to the wireless local area network. The data between the terminal and the network is ciphered using said second ciphering key. | 03-10-2011
SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR NODES COMMUNICATING IN A SHARED NETWORK SEGMENT - The invention provides a method and system for a network which includes a plurality of nodes, preferably routers, a shared network segment for communication between the nodes, and several multicast channels in the shared network segment on which the nodes, preferably routers, can send multicast messages to the other nodes. A specific multicast channel is provided on which the nodes can send specific start multicast messages to other nodes, wherein a node which starts a protocol application, preferably a routing protocol application such as Open Shortest Path First (OSPF) protocol, is adapted to send a multicast start message on the specific multicast channel. Another node, preferably a router, receiving this start message is adapted to validate the authenticity of the start message and to send a response message. | 11-11-2010
MAPPING WIRELESS PROXIMITY IDENTIFICATOR TO SUBSCRIBER IDENTITY FOR HOTSPOT BASED WIRELESS SERVICES FOR MOBILE TERMINALS - A hotspot access point enables a mobile wireless device to resume a service with a network server when service is interrupted by the mobile device moving out of the coverage area of the access point. A short-range communication link is established by the access point with the mobile device based on a local identification of the device. The access point requests additional information from the wireless device. The additional information relates to a wide area network identification of the device. The mobile device transmits additional information to the access point which stores the local area identification and additional identification. The access point transmits to the mobile device a coded identificator of the wireless device based upon the local area identification and a network identification of the device. The access point determines whether service with the mobile device is open and establishes a wide area connection with the mobile device. | 07-22-2010
METHOD FOR UPDATING A ROUTING ENTRY - The present invention concerns method for updating a routing entry BC for a communication partner node CN communicating with a communication originating node MN via a network containing at least one routing node HA, the method comprising the steps of: requesting 1. a routing entry update from said communication originating node MN to said communication partner node CN, wherein said update request contains at least an identification BUIN of the request, submitting 2. request verification information, associated to said identification BUIN of the update request, from said communication originating node MN to said at least one routing node, requesting 4. verification of said routing entry update by said communication partner node CN to said routing node HA using said identification BUIN of the update request, retrieving 5. said request verification information from said routing node based on said identification BUIN of the update request. | 01-28-2010

RECEIVED SIGNAL QUALITY DETERMINATION - A method of generating a received signal quality signal in a communication system, the method comprising: receiving a signal from a physical channel, extracting a transport channel format combination indicator from the received signal, processing one or more transport channel signals, contained in the received signal, in accordance with the extracted transport channel format combination indicator, said processing including at least channel decoding, and generating a received signal quality signal in dependence on the quality of the or each transport channel signal prior to channel decoding. | 01-15-2009
Methods and Apparatus for Balancing Modulation in Cellular Communications Over Noisy Channels - Methods and apparatus for balancing multi-symbol modulation schemes in cellular communications are provided. The modulation schemes include a plurality of modulation symbols, each of which codes a predefined bit group, which includes one or more bits. The bit groups define different bit positions for bits within the bit groups. The bit positions of the modulation symbols are associated with different error probability levels. Each error probability level defines a probability level of an erroneous bit value at a defined bit position in the bit group, which is obtained by a mapping operation from the modulation symbol transmitted over a radio frequency channel with noise. Binary content to be modulated is provided in form of code blocks I (where i=1 to n). Each of the code blocks is carried on a corresponding code channel i. The code blocks on the code channels are supplied to the modulation schemes in that each code channel is associated with one predefined bit position of the bit groups to enable a mapping to modulation symbols. The bit groups are formed from the binary content of the code blocks in accordance with the code channel-to-bit position association defined above. The binary content of at least two code blocks is shuffled, distributed, or scattered in accordance with predetermined shuffling, distributing, or scattering rules. The shuffling, distributing, or scattering aims to achieve substantially balanced or same error probability levels for said code channels. The shuffling operation should be performed to achieve a substantially evenly distribution of the binary content upon the involved code blocks. | 12-18-2008
