In one embodiment, the invention provides a method for detecting forged magnetic stripe data. The method provides for reading a magnetic strip multiple times to obtain multiple signatures and then generating a signature mask and weight based on the multiple signatures. These signatures are then compared with a known authentic signature. Based on the comparison results, a forged magnetic stripe may be detected.
