20140040840 | CONFLICT DETECTION WITH FUNCTION MODELS - Systems and methods for detecting design conflicts of a product or process are disclosed. A method for detecting design conflicts includes processing a function model of a product or process to identify a plurality of descriptions of functions to be performed by the product or process. The method includes detecting in the plurality of descriptions a first description and a second description in which the first description includes a first design component name that matches a second design component name of the second description, a first descriptive noun that matches a second descriptive noun of the second description, and a first active verb that does not match a second active verb of the second description. The method further includes flagging a relationship between the first description and the second description as a first conflict type and displaying, on a display device, information regarding the first conflict type. | 02-06-2014 |
20090157357 | DIAGNOSTIC METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING PROCESSES - A method for use in a system for diagnosing the causes of manufacturing defects involves process characterization. A set of forms is identified for a workpiece and for a piece of manufacturing equipment that acts upon the workpiece. The forms for the workpiece are preferably a hierarchic set of geometric forms. Each such geometric form corresponds to an aspect of the action of the manufacturing equipment upon the workpiece. A plurality of measurements is made on a defective workpiece following the hierarchical order of forms. The measurements are compared to a reference datum, and a deviation from the datum is computed. If the deviation exceeds a preselected threshold, an alert condition results, attributable to the action of the manufacturing equipment. Targeted adjustment corresponding to the action that caused the defect can then be made to the equipment. | 06-18-2009 |
20090099888 | METHOD OF DESIGNING PRODUCTS AND PROCESSES - A method for use in a system for prioritizing risks associated with the design and manufacture of products involves performing a failure mode detection analysis. Functions of the product and/or of the process and the effects of undesirable events related to malfunctions are characterized, and potential failure modes and causes for the effects are identified. The features of the product/process that are responsible for the undesirable effects are determined. Severity, occurrence and detectability of the undesirable events are evaluated using specific measures designed to encourage score keeping, and risk factor numbers are computed. The resultant numbers are ranked and prioritized for a set of selected functions. Risk reduction may then be performed through engineering activities directed to remedy causes associated with the malfunctioning features. Failure mode detection analysis may be updated to continue incremental and focused improvements to the product and/or process. The method permits the capture of potential failures before they reach the field and the customer. | 04-16-2009 |
