Multimodal stimulation may be mechanical, electrical, chemical, sensory and combinations thereof. The devices have a matrix sufficiently elastic so that when attached to the tissue, the matrix is capable of applying force upon the tissue and compliantly responding to force resultant from motion of the tissue. The devices also have an electrically conductive region contained within the matrix, so that, selectable locations of the device are capable of being in electrical communication with a power source and with the tissue.
