|20110093159||SYSTEM FOR PROCESSING DATA ACQUIRED FROM VEHICLE DIAGNOSTIC INTERFACE FOR VEHICLE INVENTORY MONITORING - A system for keeping an inventory of vehicles that serve as collateral for loans provided by a lending entity includes a vehicle monitoring device, a database, and a central vehicle data server. The vehicle monitoring device includes a wireless modem, a processor, a GPS receiver, a vehicle diagnostics interface connector, and memory. These components are preferably enclosed in a small housing which may be installed beneath the dashboard of a vehicle. The vehicle diagnostics interface connector connects to the vehicle's OBD interface which is electrically connected to the vehicle's on-board diagnostics processor. The device retrieves vehicle diagnostic data through the vehicle's OBD interface based on the occurrence of certain events during the operation of the vehicle, such as ignition events, voltage change events, and location-based events, such as crossing a geofence boundary or exceeding a mileage or speed threshold. The device transmits the retrieved vehicle diagnostic data to the central vehicle data server via a wireless communication network. The system uses privately-owned Local User Terminals which provide direct feeds to a privately-operated beacon information processor having dedicated on-line servers for consolidating and providing access to beacon test information. The system receives beacon signals relayed through the Cospas-Sarsat satellite system, correlates the beacons' unique identification numbers (UIN's) in the received signals to the UIN's of beacons known to be undergoing testing, collects the data transmitted by beacons under test, and displays beacon test results in a useful format on a user-friendly website.||04-29-2010|

|20080287151||APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR COMMUNICATING WITH AN ASSET MONITORING DEVICE VIA TEXT MESSAGE - A system enables communications between a mobile wireless communication device, such as a cellular phone, and an asset monitoring device using a text messaging protocol, such as Short Message Service (SMS). A command text message is entered on the mobile wireless device including a serial number of the asset monitoring device, a PIN and a command for the monitoring device. The command text message is transmitted via a wireless communication network and is forwarded to a service provider. Upon validation of the serial number and PIN, the service provider transmits a command to the wireless asset monitoring device via the wireless communication network. The wireless asset monitoring device receives the command and performs an action based thereon. For example, if the command is a LOCATE command, the wireless monitoring device transmits its current location, such as in latitude/longitude coordinates. The wireless asset monitoring device also transmits a response indicating a completed action or indicating that action was not taken for some reason. The service provider receives the response from the monitoring unit, parses the response, and constructs a report text message which is transmitted to the user's mobile communication device.
