20120076805Methods and Compositions for the Generation and Maintenance of Regulatory T Cells - Methods and compositions for generating and maintaining induced regulatory T cells (iTregs) are provided. Methods and compositions for treating an autoimmune disorder, organ transplant rejection, graft versus host disease or allergic or hypersensitivity and inflammation are also provided.03-29-2012
20120021519EFFICIENT INDUCTION OF PLURIPOTENT STEM CELLS USING SMALL MOLECULE COMPOUNDS - The disclosure features a method of producing a reprogrammed cell (e.g. an induced pluripotent stem cell or an undifferentiated cell) from a differentiated (e.g. somatic) cell. In some embodiments, the methods includes contacting a differentiated (e.g. somatic cell) with a TGFBR1 inhibitor or anti-TGF-β-antibody to produce a reprogrammed cell (e.g. pluripotent stem cell or undifferentiated cell). Embodiments of the present invention relate to a reprogrammed cell and methods and compositions for producing a chemically produced reprogrammed cell or populations thereof.01-26-2012
20110280842METHODS OF REPROGRAMMING CELLS - The present invention provides methods of reprogramming cells, for example, directly reprogramming a somatic cell of a first cell type into a somatic cell of a second cell type, are described herein. In particular, the present invention generally relates to methods for reprogramming a cell of an endoderm origin to a cell having pancreatic β-cell characteristics. The present invention also relates to an isolated population comprising reprogrammed cells, compositions and their use in the treatment of diabetes mellitus. In particular, the present invention relates to reprogramming a cell of an endoderm origin to a cell having pancreatic β-cell characteristics by increasing the protein expression of at least one transcription factor selected from Pdx1, Ngn3 or MafA in the cell of endoderm origin to reprogram the cell of an endoderm cell to a cell which exhibits at least one or at least two characteristics of an endogenous pancreatic β-cell.11-17-2011
20110257251TELOMERASE INHIBITORS AND METHODS OF USE THEREOF - One object of the present invention is to provide methods and compositions for inhibiting human telomerase, by providing inhibitors that bind to the CR4-CR5 or pseudoknot/template domains of the RNA component of human telomerase.10-20-2011
20110086818METHODS, COMPOSITIONS, AND KITS FOR TREATING PAIN AND PRURITUS - The invention features methods, compositions, and kits for selective inhibition of pain-and itch sensing neurons (nociceptors and pruriceptors) by drug molecules of small molecule weight, while minimizing effects on non-pain-sensing neurons or other types of cells.04-14-2011
20110058176SPECTROMETERS UTILIZING MID INFRARED ULTRA BROADBAND HIGH BRIGHTNESS LIGHT SOURCES - A mid infrared spectrometer comprises a high brightness broadband source that generates an output with a broad spectral range in the order of hundreds of wave numbers, a wavelength dispersive element and a detector. In one embodiment, the source comprises an array of semiconductor laser devices operating simultaneously. Each device emits light at wavelength different from the wavelengths emitted by the other devices in the array and the devices are arranged so that the combined output continuously covers the broad spectral range. In another embodiment, each of the lasers in the array is a quantum cascade laser device. In still another embodiment, the quantum cascade laser devices in the array are operated in the regime of Risken-Nummedal-Graham-Haken (RNGH) instabilities. In yet another embodiment, each of the lasers in the array is a mode-locked quantum cascade laser device.03-10-2011
20100130451SYNTHESIS OF TETRACYCLINES AND ANALOGUES THEREOF - The tetracycline class of antibiotics has played a major role in the treatment of infectious diseases for the past 50 years. However, the increased use of the tetracyclines in human and veterinary medicine has led to resistance among many organisms previously susceptible to tetracycline antibiotics. The modular synthesis of tetracyclines and tetracycline analogs described provides an efficient and enantioselective route to a variety of tetracycline analogs and polycyclines previously inaccessible via earlier tetra-cycline syntheses and semi-synthetic methods. These analogs may be used as anti-microbial agents or anti-pro liferative agents in the treatment of diseases of humans or other animals.05-27-2010
