SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR PERFORMANCE ENHANCEMENT IN HETEROGENEOUS WIRELESS ACCESS NETWORK EMPLOYING DISTRIBUTED ANTENNA SYSTEM - A system and method for dynamically optimizing the performance of indoor distributed antenna systems communicate to user equipment is disclosed. The user equipment measures information describing the downlink signals such as the downlink data rates, the quality of the received signal, and the location of the user equipment. A service module collects this information and determines an optimized power level for each of the antenna units. The service module may optimize only one antenna unit power level or a subset of the antenna units within the distributed antenna system in a preferred embodiment. One or more of the antenna units then transmits downlink signals with the optimized power levels. The optimized power level may be less than the initial power level in a preferred embodiment. As a result, the performance of the indoor distributed antenna systems is enhanced. | 10-06-2011
PICO BASE STATION LOCATION AND ANALYSIS USING MOBILE DEVICES - A base station analysis system and method that may employ commercially-available mobile device platforms is disclosed. The base station analysis application enables a service technician to locate nearby base stations in the field, determine which base stations are functioning properly, and retrieve information associated with the base stations. The mobile device displays nearby base stations on a street map relative to the location of the mobile device in an embodiment. The mobile device preferably displays the spatially-varying signal strength for the active base stations to enable the service technician to locate dead spots in the coverage. The mobile device displays a reality augmented view having graphical icons which represent base stations embedded within a street-view image obtained by the mobile device camera in a preferred embodiment. When a service technician selects a base station icon, installation information describing the base station is provided. | 10-06-2011
SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR PERFORMANCE ENHANCEMENT IN HETEROGENEOUS WIRELESS ACCESS NETWORKS - A system and method for dynamically optimizing the transmission power levels for downlink voice and data signal transmitted from a base station to user equipment is disclosed. The user equipment measures the strength and quality of the downlink signal, and transmits this downlink signal information to a control unit. The control unit analyzes the downlink information and employs an adaptive self-learning traffic algorithm which determines optimized power levels for the downlink signals. The control unit may optimize only one carrier signal or a subset of the multi-carrier signals in a preferred embodiment. The values of the optimized power levels are sent to the base station which then increases or decreases the downlink transmission power of one or more carrier signals based on this level. As a result, the area associated with dead spots is reduced and the quality of the downlink signals is enhanced. | 10-06-2011
REDUCED SIZE CAVITY FILTERS FOR PICO BASE STATIONS - An improved microwave cavity filter used in cellular communication systems such as base stations is disclosed. The cavity filter has a conductive housing forming a cavity therein and a hollow conductive resonator configured in the cavity with a folded hat shaped upper portion. A tuning screw extends from the top cover of the housing into the top folded hat portion of the hollow resonator to fine tune the resonator. The resonator also may preferably include two different diameter sections providing a first high impedance section with smaller diameter and a second lower impedance section with a larger diameter configured at an upper end of the resonator. This configuration provides a significantly smaller cavity height for a given power handling capability. The resonator is preferably of constant thickness allowing low cost stamping or other forming techniques to be used in forming the resonator. | 10-06-2011
WALK-IN OUTDOOR ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENT ENCLOSURE - An enclosure that provides a temporary sheltered service access area is disclosed. The outdoor electronics enclosure comprises a fixed cabinet which holds electronic equipment and a housing that is attached to the fixed cabinet with slide rails. The housing has a top panel, a service access door, two vertical panels, and a raised floor. The housing is movable from a closed position in which the housing is immediately adjacent to and partially surrounds the fixed cabinet to an open position in which the housing is moved away from the fixed cabinet in a horizontal direction to define an internal service access area within the housing for servicing the electronic equipment. Service technicians enter the sheltered service area and maintain electronic equipment in the fixed cabinet. | 09-22-2011
ACTIVE ANTENNA ARRAY HEATSINK - An active array heat sink cooled by natural free convection is disclosed. A long extruded heat sink is partitioned into multiple, shorter zones separated by gaps having horizontal baffles. The gaps and baffles serve to act as air vents and air inlets for the convection currents. As such, the heat transfer for the overall heat sink is improved because hot convection currents are vented and replaced by cool ambient air along the length of the heat sink. | 08-04-2011
MEASUREMENT AND CORRECTION OF RESIDUAL NONLINEARITIES IN A DIGITALLY PREDISTORTED POWER AMPLIFIER - A reduced cost method for the measurement and correction of residual nonlinearities in a digitally predistorted transmitter is disclosed. Systems employing predistorters and power amplifiers are calibrated by processing actual input and output signals during the normal operation of the systems. The systems correct memoryless nonlinearities as well as both memoryless and memory based nonlinearities. | 05-26-2011
Co-Location of a Pico eNB and Macro Up-Link Repeater - A wireless communication system and method comprising co-location of a pico evolved node B (“eNB”) and a macro up-link repeater is disclosed. User Equipment (“UE”) communicates with a macro eNB via the up-link repeater with reduced transmission power as compared to the transmission power required for the UE to communicate directly with the macro eNB. As a result, the UE does not desensitize the pico eNB receiver. The up-link repeater comprises a donor antenna that radiates a highly directional beam to the macro eNB. | 03-24-2011
