The bioengineered collagen constructs comprise a sheet-like layer of purified collagenous tissue matrix derived from a tissue source, such as the tunica submucosa of small intestine or a processed intestinal collagen layer derived from the tunica submucosa of small intestine, treated with an antimicrobial agent. The constructs are biocompatible. The present invention has a variety of applications, including wound dressing and surgical repair devices.
