The catalyst can be made by a reverse-micelle method or by a single-phase scalable method. A temperature-sensitive fluid or solid dielectric material is disposed contiguous with at least a portion of the electrically conductive film, such that a temperature change in the dielectric material alters a resonance condition for the SPER. Measureable changes in the SPER due to altered resonance conditions provide for an ultrasensitive temperature sensor that can detect small temperature changes in the dielectric material. The disclosed methods and apparatus may be used for a variety of applications including, but not limited to, nanoscale to microscale calorimetry for pharmaceutical and biotechnology products, combustion sensing, explosive detection, and biotoxin monitoring.05-13-2010

A process for producing the circuit interconnect includes using dielectrophoresis by applying an electrical field across a gap between vertically displaced non-coplanar microelectrodes in the presence of a liquid suspension of nanoelements such as nanoparticles or single-walled carbon nanotubes to form a nanoelement bridge connecting the microelectrodes. The assembly process can be carried out at room temperature, is compatible with conventional semiconductor fabrication, and has a high yield. The current-voltage curves obtained from the nanoelement bridge demonstrate that the assembly is functional with a resistance of −40 ohms for gold nanoparticles. The method is suitable for making high density three-dimensional circuit interconnects, vertically integrated nanosensors, and for in-line testing of manufactured conductive nanoelements.02-18-2010
20100024879TITANIA NANOTUBES PREPARED BY ANODIZATION IN CHLORIDE-CONTAINING ELECTROLYTES - A method of preparing titania nanotubes involves anodization of titanium in the presence of chloride ions and at low pH (1-7) in the absence of fluoride. The method leads to rapid production of titania nanotubes of about 25 nm diameter and high aspect ratio. The nanotubes can be organized into bundles and tightly packed parallel arrays. Inclusion of organic acids in the electrolyte solution leads to the incorporation into the nanotubes of up to 50 atom percent of carbon. In a two-stage method, a titanium anode is pre-patterned using a fluoride ion containing electrolyte and subsequently anodized in a chloride ion containing electrolyte to provide more evenly distributed nanotube arrays. The titania nanotubes have uses in composite materials, solar cells, hydrogen production, and as hydrogen sensors.02-04-2010

The method comprises digestion of the protein with an enzyme that forms larger peptide fragments than trypsin (>3000 D), performing HPLC with the fragments and applying a new data acquisition strategy using on-line coupling with e.g. LTQ-FTMS, a hybrid mass spectrometer that couples a linear ion trap with a Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance (FTICR) cell.
