20100176291 | MASS SPECTROMETER - A mass analyzer system includes an ion inlet that receives a flow of ions, a multi-mode ion controller that controls some or all of the ions, and a multi-mode mass analyzer, in communication with the ion controller, that performs at least one of analyzing and controlling some or all of the ions. The system also includes a detector, in communication with the multi-mode mass analyzer, that detects some or all of the ions and a processor that controls the operation of at least one of the multi-mode ion controller and the multimode mass analyzer. | 07-15-2010 |
20100150423 | Multi-nucleated cell classification and micronuclei scoring - Methods and systems for counting nuclei for cells in a cell-containing sample are disclosed, such as carried out on a computer. The methods comprise: receiving a raw image of the cell-containing sample; transforming the raw image into a segmented image comprising one or more nuclei clusters. The methods further comprise: for each of the one or more nuclei clusters, obtaining a convex hull of the nuclei cluster; locating any indentations on the nuclei cluster by comparing the nuclei cluster to the convex hull of the nuclei cluster; calculating a first nuclei count based on a tally of the indentations; and assigning the nuclei cluster to a cell among the plurality of cells. The methods further comprise: calculating a second nuclei count for each cell by totaling the first nuclei counts of its constituent nuclei clusters; and presenting a result based on the second nuclei count for at least one of the plurality of cells. | 06-17-2010 |
20090283673 | METHODS AND SYSTEMS FOR ANALYSIS AND CORRECTION OF MASS SPECTROMETER DATA - A background component of reporter ion signals is determined by fitting a distribution function. A plurality of samples that include a protein labeled with a plurality of isobaric reporter ions is analyzed at a plurality of different times using a mass spectrometer, producing a plurality of mass spectra for the plurality of isobaric reporter ions. A cumulative distribution is calculated for an inverse coefficient of differential expression of the plurality of mass spectra using a processor. A Pearson Type IV distribution shifted by a constant value is fitted to the cumulative distribution and the constant value is solved for using the processor. A background component for each spectrum of the plurality of mass spectra is calculated from the constant value, a calculated coefficient of differential expression for each spectrum, and an average reporter ion signal value for each spectrum using the processor. | 11-19-2009 |
20090259438 | RELATIVE NOISE - Relative noise is a single scalar value that is used to predict the maximum value of the expected noise at any point and is calculated from the measured signal and a mathematical noise model. The mathematical noise model is selected or estimated from an observation that includes statistical and/or numerical modeling based on a population of measurement points. An absolute noise for a plurality of points of the measured signal is estimated. An array of values is calculated by dividing each of a plurality of points of the absolute noise by a corresponding expected noise value calculated from the mathematical noise model. The relative noise is calculated by taking a standard deviation of a plurality of points of the array. The relative noise can be used to calculate scaled background signal noise, filter regions, denoise data, detect false positives from features, calculate S/N, and determine a stop condition for acquiring data. | 10-15-2009 |
20090194685 | HIGH-THROUGHPUT SCREENING OF METABOLIC DISORDERS USING A LASER DESORPTION ION SOURCE COUPLED TO A MASS ANALYZER - Methods and kits for high throughput screening and analysis of metabolic disorders using a laser desorption ion source coupled to a mass analyzer (for example, MALDI) are provided. The metabolic disorders can be amino acid, organic acid or fatty acid oxidation disorders. A panel of disorders can be analyzed at high speeds. The methods and kits are particularly useful for newborn screening (NBS) of metabolic disorders. | 08-06-2009 |
20090065686 | METHODS AND SYSTEMS FOR BACKGROUND CORRECTION IN TANDEM MASS SPECTROMETRY BASED QUANTITATION - A corrected reporter ion intensity is calculated in tandem mass spectrometry based quantitation using isobaric labels. An analyte in each of two or more samples of a mixture of samples is labeled with a different isobaric label. The analyte is eluted from the mixture of samples and intensities of the eluting analyte are measured. An analyte intensity is selected at each of at least two times from the measured intensities. Tandem mass spectrometry is performed on the eluting analyte at each of the at least two times. A plurality of reporter ion intensities is produced. A system of linear equations is created expressing each reporter ion intensity of the plurality of reporter ion intensities as a sum of a background noise intensity and the product of a fragmentation efficiency and an analyte intensity. A corrected reporter ion intensity is calculated from a solution of the system of linear equations. | 03-12-2009 |
