20150252259 | ENHANCING UPCONVERSION LUMINESCENCE IN RARE-EARTH DOPED PARTICLES - Disclosed is a method for enhancing upconversion luminescence of rare-earth doped particles comprising a host material, an enriched concentration of activator (emitter) and a sufficient concentration level of sensitiser, the method comprising subjecting the particles to increased irradiance. The increased irradiance is higher than presently used relatively low irradiance levels. Enhancing upconversion luminescence involves enhancing luminescence intensity, brightness and/or upconversion efficiency. Particles are preferably subjected to an irradiance power density sufficient to overcome or reverse concentration quenching. The activator preferably has an intermediate meta stable energy level which accepts resonance energy from the sensitiser excited state level. In another form, particles are designed to minimize or exclude quenchers from the upconversion system between sensitizer and activator, such as the core-shell particles wherein the core comprises the host material, sensitiser and the activator, and the shell comprises a material which prevents, retards or inhibits surface quenching. | 09-10-2015 |
20150185149 | MULTIPLEX SUSPENSION ASSAY/ARRAY USING LIFETIME CODING - A system, device and/or method for multiplex assays. In a particular, but non-limiting, example there is provided a multiplex array, such as a suspension array. Luminescence decay lifetimes are utilised for probes in a suspension array, and coding/decoding the codes from time-resolved spectra. Lifetime populations can be generated at distinct colour bands. A novel temporal technique or dimension is applied over conventional spectral and intensity combinations, thereby expanding the multiplexing capacity of a suspension array. In one example form, the multiplexing capacity of a suspension array can be expanded to the order of about 5 | 07-02-2015 |
20150144806 | TWO-DIRECTIONAL SCANNING FOR LUMINESCENCE MICROSCOPY - In one form, a two-directional scanning method for luminescence microscopy is disclosed. A series of continuous scans are performed by an interrogation wide-field relative to a first direction and a target is identified. A precise position of the target is determined in the first direction. At least one scan by the interrogation wide-field is performed relative to a second direction at or near the precise position of the target in the first direction. The two-directional scanning method produces “on-the-fly” (i.e. ex tempore or impromptu) precise localization of targets. Embodiments open up new applications for background-free or background-reduced luminescence microscopy, for example time-gated or time-resolved luminescence microscopy, in a relatively fast, higher speed or more efficient manner. | 05-28-2015 |
