20110289997METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR FABRICATING ARTICLES FROM METALS HAVING A HEXAGONAL CLOSE PACKED CRYSTAL STRUCTURE - A method and apparatus for fabricating articles from metals having a hexagonal close packed (HCP) crystal structure is described. The method comprises a two-stage process: specialized hot deep drawing and pneumatic coining within a single press cycle. The apparatus includes a drawing chamber in which the environmental temperature is sufficient to impart enough ductility to the metal or alloy blank to allow it to be drawn about a plug into an outline shape of the finished part. More detailed features are then added by increasing the gas pressure inside the chamber, thereby forcing the drawn blank more closely against the contours of the plug. Use of pneumatic pressure avoids the use of matched dies, which are prohibitively complex and expensive to use to shape parts from such HCP metals.12-01-2011
20110017614STABILISATION OF STORED GAS - A method of treating the internal surface of a container for the storage of gas, such as a gas cylinder, that is made from or lined with aluminium or aluminium alloy. The method is characterised in that it comprises creating a freshly exposed aluminium surface, for example by the use of a wet grinding, in the presence of a surfactant. The surfactant is preferably derived from C01-27-2011
20080277036METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING TANKS - The invention relates to the manufacture of tanks from one ore more metal plates using a friction stir welding process The metal plate or plates is first formed into a tubular shape with one pair of opposite edges facing one another to form a longitudinal joint line, the opposite edges then being friction stir welded together. At least a part of the friction stir welded region is cold worked and subsequently the tube is heat treated at a temperature above the recrystallisation temperature.11-13-2008
