The luminaire can include several LED packages providing light to a primary optical component, which directs the light out of the luminaire. Because individual LED packages may output light at slightly different colors and/or brightness, the luminaire can include a secondary optical component having different materials that modify the color, brightness, or both of the output light. The secondary optical component can serve as a filter positioned between the LED packages (e.g., between a LED module) and the primary optical component, or between the primary optical component and the user, or above the primary optical component. The secondary optical component can be constructed by providing colorfast inks, phosphors, or quantum dots on a clear substrate or on a surface of the primary optical component. The luminaire can include a frame having a center plate and side walls. LED modules can be disposed adjacent to opposite side walls such that the LED modules are oriented towards each other. The luminaire can include light wells positioned over each of the LED modules such that light emitted by the LED modules may be reflected within the light wells until it is transmitted by a lens region of the light well at a wide angle relative to the nadir of the luminaire. The light wells can include reflective layers disposed on all surfaces surrounding the LED modules, and a transmittance lens region through which light, emitted by the LED modules as point sources, can exit the fixture as a surface of light. A luminaire can include a base and an outer accessory through which light generated by a light source placed in the base is transmitted. To customize the light emitted by the luminaire, an inner accessory having an optical component can be placed within the outer accessory. The optical component can be tuned to provide a light pattern corresponding to an environment in which the luminaire is placed. Because all of the components used to create the luminaire, other than the optical component, are standard, the luminaire can be easily constructed with a default optical component, but also easily customized at a minimal cost. The lens can include an elongated trench in which several LED light sources can be placed in a line such that light emitted within the trench is re-directed by the lens. The lens can include one or more knobs extending over the trench to facilitate diverting emitted light in a more lateral direction, as opposed to vertical direction. In particular, this is directed to a troffer-style fixture having several receptacles for receiving LED modules. The modules can be inserted in the fixture such that some light emitted by the LED modules is directed towards an opposite surface of the fixture, causing light from opposite LED modules to mix as light is emitted from the fixture (e.g., cross lighting the fixture environment. The resulting light transmitted and reflected by the troffer can have softer qualities than direct light emitted by a LED module, and enhance the aesthetic appeal of light provided by the fixture.
