The backlight unit includes first, second and third light emitting diode arrays respectively generating red light, green light and blue light to provide white light to the liquid crystal panel. The first, second and third light emitting diode drivers generate operating voltages driving the first, second and third light emitting diode arrays, respectively. The light-intensity detector detects an intensity of white light provided to the liquid crystal panel.
