A blank band saw blade is produced from a metal band, such as a metal band that can be stored on a roll. Several metal bands are combined into a flush metal band packet which can be introduced into a saw band grinding machine. The metal bands are pressed onto a planar guide. The metal band packet is clamped and a grinding machine operates to produce a desired saw tooth profile. A pawl is introduced into a tooth profile which is ground into the metal band packet.
