20110294722ANTIMICROBIAL PEPTIDES - The present invention relates to a peptide comprising or consisting of a sequence of the formula A-B-C-D-E-F (formula I), wherein A is a peptide consisting of three to six basic amino acid residues; B is an amino acid residue or a peptide consisting of two amino acid residues, wherein said residue(s) are hydrophobic amino acid residues; C is a basic amino acid residue or is absent; D is a peptide consisting of two hydrophobic amino acid residues or is absent; E is a peptide consisting of two basic amino acid residues; and F is a peptide consisting of two hydrophobic amino acid residues; or a peptidomimetic thereof; wherein the basic amino acid residue is selected from the group consisting of arginine, lysine and histidine; wherein the hydrophobic amino acid residue is selected from the group consisting of leucine, alanine, valine, phenylalanine, isoleucine and methionine; and wherein said peptide or peptidomimetic has antimicrobial activity. Furthermore, the invention relates to a nucleic acid molecule encoding the peptide of the invention, a vector comprising the nucleic acid molecule as well as a host cell comprising the nucleic acid molecule or the vector. The present invention also relates to a method for producing the peptide of the invention, a composition as well as to the peptide or peptidomimetic of the invention for use in treating infectious diseases.12-01-2011
