20120059219BIPOLAR RESECTION DEVICE HAVING SIMPLIFIED ROTATIONAL CONTROL AND BETTER VISUALIZATION - An oval or ovoid electrode is used in a resectoscope. A longer dimension of the electrode preferably extends in a direction that is perpendicular to the direction in which the electrode is moved during tissue resection.03-08-2012
20120044587SOLID IMAGING OBJECTIVE AND ASSEMBLY TECHNIQUE FOR SMALL SCALE SENSOR APPLICATIONS - An imaging optic comprising a first combination element comprised of at least two individual lens elements, aligned with each other along an optical axis and adhered to each other, a second combination element comprised of at least one individual lens element and an aperture disposed between the first and second combination elements, the surfaces of the imaging optic having less than about 3 minutes tilt relative to the optical axis and less than about 0.005 mm de-center relative to the optical axis. A method of making the imaging optic and an endoscope comprising the imaging optic.02-23-2012
20110295066CONTINUOUS FLOW ENDOSCOPE SYSTEMS - Endoscopes having a hollow outer sheath configured for insertion into a patient's body are disclosed. A hollow inner sheath is receivable within the outer sheath, and is configured to slideably receive a first internal instrument. A working element can be configured to rotatably support at least the first internal instrument and a second internal instrument such that at least the first internal instrument and the second internal instrument are rotatable about a common axis of rotation being substantially coextensive with a longitudinal axis of the outer sheath. The working element can have at least one guide rail extending longitudinally of the axis of rotation and an actuator block can be slideably mountable to the at least one guiderail and so securable to at least one of the instruments as to be able to urge the at least one of the internal instruments longitudinally of the outer sheath.12-01-2011
20110288532ATRAUMATIC URETERAL ACCESS SHEATH - Ureteral access sheaths can have a nonuniform axial-stiffness. A nonuniform axial-stiffness ureteral access sheath can have an inner liner defining a longitudinally extending and generally uniform bore. A non-uniform axial-stiffness outer jacket can define a longitudinally tapered outer surface, and a reinforcement layer can be encapsulated between the inner liner and the non-uniform axial-stiffness outer jacket. The reinforcement layer can have a non-uniform axial-stiffness. For example, a proximal portion of the reinforcement layer can be thicker than a distal portion of the reinforcement layer. A coil of wire can be included in the reinforcement layer, and a diameter of the wire in a proximal portion of the reinforcement layer can be larger than a diameter of the wire in a distal portion of the reinforcement layer. In some instances, the diameter of the wire tapers from the proximal portion to the distal portion.11-24-2011
20110060184ENDOSCOPIC ILLUMINATION SYSTEM, ASSEMBLY AND METHODS FOR STAGED ILLUMINATION OF DIFFERENT TARGET AREAS - The inventive subject matter is generally directed to an illumination system for staged illumination in an endoscopic procedure. The inventive system generally includes an illumination apparatus supporting a light source that is configured for removable assembly with an endoscope. The assembly is configured for insertion into a natural or artificial passageway in a body. The illumination apparatus has one or more light sources providing a first, relatively high level of illumination suitable for imaging a first, relatively large target area, either alone or in combination with a light source for the endoscope, and after removal of the illumination apparatus from the assembly, the endoscope provides a second relatively lower level of illumination suitable for imaging a relatively small target area.03-10-2011
20110029733ENDOSCOPY DEVICE SUPPORTING MULTIPLE INPUT DEVICES - The present invention provides a remote-head imaging system with a camera control unit capable of supporting multiple input devices. The camera control unit detects an input device to which it is connected and changes the camera control unit's internal functionality accordingly. Such changes include altering clock timing, changing video output parameters, and changing image processing software. In addition, a user is able to select different sets of software program instructions and hardware configuration information based on the head that is attached. The remote-head imaging system utilizes field-programmable circuitry, such as field-programmable gate arrays (FPGA), in order to facilitate the change in configuration.02-03-2011
20100331621Bipolar resection device having simplified rotational control and better visualization - An improved bipolar resection device provides an intuitive finger grip control in a smaller sheath package. Bipolar electrode wires occupy less space by extending in a closely abutting relationship along the sheath and exiting in a one above the other orientation that provides a reduced profile, allowing for better visualization during resection. In various embodiments, resection motion is provided through a rotational sweep transverse to the longitudinal axis of the resection device and may include push/pull motion. The sheath may be oval in shape and the bipolar electrode connected to the bipolar electrode wires having a narrow cross-section to improve resection site visualization.12-30-2010
20090118577MEDICAL DEVICE MADE WITH A SUPER ALLOY - A medical device with a shaft having a proximal end and a distal end, the proximal end having an operational interface, the distal end having a working element, and the shaft may include a super alloy. In one example embodiment, the shaft may include a cobalt base alloy. In another example embodiment, a medical device includes a first portion having a super alloy, and a second portion having a dissimilar metal joined to the first portion by an arc welding technique. In another possible embodiment, a first portion includes a cobalt base alloy, and a second portion includes a non-metal joined to the first portion. The inventive subject matter also includes a method for joining a cobalt base alloy to a dissimilar metal by hermetic sealing, such as provided, for example, by an arc welding technique.05-07-2009
20080300463HERMETIC ENDOSCOPE ASSEMBLAGE - Hermetically sealed enclosures and constructions are disclosed for use in endoscopic systems, particularly endoscopic systems with electronic imaging and illumination systems in the enclosures. Compound optical windows are also disclosed for use in the systems. The compound optical windows may have separate panes for an imaging system and an illumination system, and contrast-reducing optical boundaries are between panes.12-04-2008
20080287742LIGHT SOURCE POWER BASED ON PREDETERMINED SENSED CONDITION - A medical instrument having a lighting system for illuminating a target area, the system comprising a light source and associated power controller, the system being configured to move from a first illumination mode to a second illumination mode based on a sensed or determined changed condition, such as predetermined temperature and/or change in a scene or brightness signal, or lack of change, from an image sensor that may be associated with the instrument.11-20-2008
