20120127943Method and System for Reducing Connection Set-Up Time - A method of connection setup in mobile wireless data communications systems is disclosed where the connection setup time is decreased for delay-sensitive communications sessions relative to the normal connection setup time for confidence-dependent communications sessions. This is achieved by performing some of the connection set-up steps for delay-sensitive communications sessions after successfully demodulating a smaller number of indications identifying an access terminal's desired serving resource than would be demodulated in the case of a confidence-dependent communication session prior to performing the same connection set-up steps.05-24-2012
20110286334Admission Control and Policing in Wireless Packet Data Communication System - A call flow is provided in a wireless communication system (11-24-2011
20110244910Method and System for Distributed Distance-Based Paging - A distance-based paging system distributes the decision as to which base stations should send a page to a terminal. The Radio Network Controller (RNC) simply stores the location information and paging range (e.g., the route update radius) of the reference sector for each terminal. When a page message needs to be sent to the terminal, the RNC sends the location information and paging range to each base station in a broadcast or a multicast message that includes the location coordinates and route update radius of the reference sector in the message header, and the information to be sent in the over the air page in the message payload. Each base station determines whether one or more of its sectors is located within the paging area, and broadcasts a page based on the payload of the message to the terminal if it is within the paging area or discards the paging message if it is not.10-06-2011
20110122765Protection Against The Effect of Equipment Failure in a Communications System - A data communications system has a plurality of nodes connected by a plurality of links. A subset of the links and nodes forms a worker path for carrying worker data through the communications system, and a further subset of links and nodes provides a protection path for carrying other data in the absence of a fault in the worker path and for providing an alternative path for the worker data in the event of a fault in the worker path. The alternative path is predetermined prior to the detection of a fault in the worker path.05-26-2011
20110064412NOISE REDUCTION IN OPTICAL COMMUNICATIONS NETWORKS - An optical network node for an n-channel dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) optical communications network, includes an add path for adding an n-channel wavelength multiplex onto the network. The add path has an n-channel signal combiner for combining the n signal channels. An optical amplifier amplifies an output of the signal combiner. A multichannel wavelength selective filter with variable-per-channel attenuation filters out noise from the amplifier on a channel which carries no content to be added to the network, and controls amplitude of signals in channels to be added to the network. An add coupler couples the add path to the network.03-17-2011
20110029602ESTABLISHING CONNECTION ACROSS A CONNECTION-ORIENTED FIRST TELECOMMUNICATIONS NETWORK IN RESPONSE TO A CONNECTION REQUEST FROM A SECOND TELECOMMUNICATIONS NETWORK - A first Multi Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) Internet Protocol (IP) data network transmits data to a second MPLS IP network via a legacy network, which would not otherwise be able to handle the required user network interface (UNI) protocol by configuring the legacy network and its network management system (TNMS) so that they emulate an MPLS network. When a first network element (NE) receives a connection (UNI) request from the MPLS network under a UNI protocol, the UNI request is passed to the TNMS, which then sets the required connection across the legacy network via a second edge NE to an NE of the second network. Once the connection has been set, the TNMS instructs the edge NE to send a return signal to the requesting network indicating that the connection has been successfully set. Data packets may then be transmitted across the network.02-03-2011
20100272072CALL ORIGINATION IN A CDMA LEGACY MS DOMAIN USING SIP - A system and a method in a wireless network utilizing session initiation protocol (SIP) for call control. The SIP payload (SDP) contains a list of voice codecs to coordinate the selection of voice bearer resources (between a calling party and a called party) such that the number of transcoders in the voice bearer path is minimized. An additional aspect of the embodiment of the present invention includes a serving MSCe that is operable to determine whether to initiate or discontinue ringback to the calling party. If ring back is to be initiated, ringback can be initiated from a Serving MGW controlled by the serving MSCe. The call negotiation process according to the described embodiment of the invention eliminates the requirement for any transcoding in specific situations to result in the number of transcoders used in the voice bearer path to be reduced to 0 (TrFO, Transcoder Free Operation) or to 1 (RTO, remote transmitter operation).10-28-2010
20090034970Optical Switch Controller - An optical switch controller controls an optical interconnection network that variably connects at least one input data channel to a plurality of outputs channels via at least one switching element. An address reader module has at least one semiconductor optical amplifier optically processes an optical signal. The address reader module obtains information by reading a data tag from the input data channel, and outputs an address control signal based on the information. The address control signal can be used to control switching elements in the optical interconnection network.02-05-2009
20090017823TECHNIQUE FOR CONTROLLING HANDOVERS WITHIN A MULTI-RADIO WIRELESS COMMUNICATION SYSTEM - A technique is provided for use by a Multi-Radio Management Resource (MRRM) component of a multi-radio wireless communication system for controlling the handover of a mobile terminal between different radio access technologies (RAT). In one example, all suitable RATs having coverage areas currently covering the location of a mobile terminal are identified. The performance gain that might be achieved via a handover to one of the other RATs is then determined by the MRRM based on various performance gain factors. Handover costs that will be incurred as a result of the handover are also explicitly calculated. Then, a cost-adjusted gain is determined by the MRRM based on the performance gain and the handover costs. A handover is only triggered by the MRRM if the cost-adjusted gain exceeds a minimum threshold. The speed and trajectory of the mobile terminal may also be considered.01-15-2009
20090003192Protection Mechanisms for a Communications Network - A method of path protection for a connection-oriented packet switched communications network is described using a protection hub in communication with a worker hub via a core protection path. Both the worker hub and the protection hub communicate with at least one provider edge device via a respective worker and protection paths. The method detects a failure in the communications network, indicates the failure to the at least one of the provider edge device, the worker hub, and the protection hub. The method then employs the core protection path if a failure occurs along a worker path is detected, or a worker path and a protection path in parallel if a failure occurs along the core protection path.01-01-2009
