20110306899BLOOD DRAWING DEVICE WITH FLASH DETECTION - A device for drawing fluid from a lumen, and particularly blood from a blood vessel, is disclosed. The device may provide indication of the entry of an intravenous cannula into the lumen. The device may include a guide tube for receiving a blood sample container and which may be connected to a needle for drawing blood from a lumen. A rear cannula may extend into the guide tube from the well. A flexible sleeve may be mounted on a barb connected to the guide tube. The flexible sleeve may extend into the guide tube from the well and surround at least a tip portion of the rear cannula. A venting member may be provided between the interior of the sleeve and the ambient. The venting member may permit air to vent from the flexible sleeve without venting blood, so that flash can be detected. In some, but not all, embodiments, one or more passages may be provided in guide tube to facilitate the venting of air from the flexible sleeve.12-15-2011
20100160865LUMBAR PUNCTURE DETECTION DEVICE - A device for drawing spinal fluid from a body part or injecting medication into the body part is disclosed. The device may include one or more measurement features (markings) that indicate the subcutaneous depth of the device as well as confirm placement and orientation of the spinal fluid withdrawing or medication injecting end of the device in the body part. The device may include a trocar and a cannula having a patient end, a non-patient end, an outer surface, and a central passage adapted to receive said trocar. One or more windows may be provided in or on the cannula, said windows extending from the outer surface of the cannula to the central passage. The windows may be spaced from the patient end of the cannula and from each other along a specific longitudinal axis of the cannula by a predetermined distance, such as 10 millimeters. Means for venting air from the cannula central passage and/or transparent/translucent material may be disposed in said windows.06-24-2010
20100010372POROUS MULTIPLE SAMPLE SLEEVE AND BLOOD DRAWING DEVICE FOR FLASH DETECTION - A device for drawing fluid from a lumen, and particularly blood from a blood vessel, is disclosed. The device may provide indication of the entry of an intravenous cannula into the lumen. The device may include a central body having an outer wall and an inner fluid passage. The device may include a luer-type adapter to permit the attachment of sample vial guide tube, or an I.V. infusion set of various lengths (“butterfly needle”) and or any luer-type fitting attached to an existing device. The outer wall of the central body of the flexible sleeve may be transparent or translucent to permit the detection of fluid within the inner passage. A front cannula may extend from one end of the central body and a rear cannula may extend from the other end of the central body. Both the front and rear cannulae may communicate with the inner fluid passage. An air-permeable blood-impermeable flexible sleeve may surround at least a tip portion of the rear cannula. The air-permeable blood-impermeable flexible sleeve acts as a venting member. The venting member permits the passage of air through it, and is substantially impermeable to liquids, such as blood. The flexible sleeve may be comprised of two types of material, a first material which is air-impermeable and a second material which is air-permeable blood-impermeable.01-14-2010
