20110057639PASSIVE LOSSLESS SNUBBER CELL FOR A POWER CONVERTER - A passive lossless snubber cell for a switched-mode power converter comprises an energy absorbing circuit and an energy resetting circuit coupled to said energy absorbing circuit. The energy absorbing circuit is arranged to release energy stored in a snubber capacitor of the energy absorbing circuit to a storage capacitor of the energy resetting circuit through a resonant pathway of the snubber cell in response to a first switching action of a power converter transistor switch. The energy resetting circuit is arranged to release the energy stored therein to a part of a circuit of the power converter in response to a second switching action of the power converter transistor switch, the second switching action being a successive action to the first switching action. The passive lossless snubber cell has several advantages over existing snubbering techniques. First, it provides zero-current-switching (ZCS) and zero-voltage-switching (ZVS) conditions for turning on and off, respectively, the switch over a wide load range. Second, it does not introduce extra voltage stress on the switch. Third, by taking the ripple current through the switch into account, the peak switch current during the snubber resonance period is designed to be less than the designed switch current without the snubber. Hence, the proposed snubber does not introduce extra current stress on the switch.03-10-2011

The power control circuit of the charging pad consists of two power conversion stages. Depending on the nature of the input power supply, the first power stage is an AC-DC power converter with variable output voltage control and a second stage is a DC-AC power inverter with constant current control. The combination of the two stages provides power control of the charging pad and generates AC magnetic flux of ideally constant magnitude over the charging areas within a group of primary windings that are excited.05-14-2009
20090108805LOCALIZED CHARGING, LOAD IDENTIFICATION AND BI-DIRECTIONAL COMMUNICATION METHODS FOR A PLANAR INDUCTIVE BATTERY CHARGING SYSTEM - Methods and principles are described for systematizing localized charging, load identification and bi-directional communication in a planar battery charging system. Also described is control circuitry for selectively energizing a primary winding when a load is placed on the platform. The optimization of the size of the receiver winding compared to the transmitter winding is discussed, while the associated communication methods include techniques for load identification, compatibility checks, hand-shaking and communication of charging status.04-30-2009
20090036566BIODEGRADABLE COMPOSITE, PRODUCT MADE THEREFROM, AND METHOD OF MANUFACTURE THEREOF - Biodegradable composites and products, and methods of their manufacture are presented. The composites typically comprise 10 wt % to 80 wt % of a lignocellulosic material derived from an agricultural residue or obtained from a natural source, 20 wt % to 80 wt % of a polymer binder, 5 wt % to 20 wt % of a compatibilizer, and an effective amount of a processing aid. One method of manufacture of a product is by injection molding.02-05-2009
20090033626COMPUTER MOUSE - A pad-free radio-frequency mouse includes an ergonomic design such that the mouse is contoured to a user's hand, a Radio-Frequency mouse transmitter, and a USB Radio-Frequency receiver. With the usual mouse pad removed, the cursor on a monitor can be subtly maneuvered by moving one's thumb or fingers over an optical sensor in the mouse. Practically all functions found in existing mice and new functions can be implemented via five or more buttons provided adjacent the optical sensor.02-05-2009
20090022969Ultrahard multilayer coating comprising nanocrystalline diamond and nanocrystalline cubic boron nitride - A multilayer coating (MLC) is composed of two chemically different layered nanocrystalline materials, nanodiamond (nanoD) and nano-cubic boron nitride (nono-cBN). The structure of the MLC and fabrication sequence of layered structure are disclosed. The base layer is preferably nanoD and is the first deposited layer serving as an accommodation layer on a pretreated substrate. It can be designed with a larger thickness whereas subsequent alternate nano-cBN and nanoD layers are typically prepared with a thickness of 2 to 100 nm. The thickness of these layers can be engineered for a specific use. The deposition of the nanoD layer, by either cold or thermal plasma CVD, is preceded by diamond nucleation on a pretreated and/or precoated substrate, which has the capacity to accommodate the MLC and provides excellent adhesion. Nano-cBN layers are directly grown on nanodiamond crystallites using ion-assisted physical vapor deposition (PVD) and ion-assisted plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD), again followed by nanodiamond deposition using CVD methods in cycles until the intended number of layers of the MLC is obtained.01-22-2009
20090021161ORGANIC ELECTROLUMINESCENT DEVICES INCORPORATING UV-ILLUMINATED FLUOROCARBON LAYERS - A simple and efficient method of increasing conductivity of the fluorocarbon film is disclosed. By illuminating the fluorocarbon film under ultraviolet light (UV-CFx), the film conductivity can be increased by five orders of magnitude. Devices using such a UV-treated, conductive fluorocarbon film as a buffer layer give much better performance in terms of lower operational voltage and enhanced operational stability. The improved smoothness and lowered hole injection barrier height with UV-CFx are responsible for the enhanced performance of electroluminescent devices.01-22-2009
20080309431PLANAR EMI FILTER - An EMI filter for use between a power source and an electronic product is formed of at least one planar element including a pair of opposed coreless spiral planar windings, and a planar capacitor. This enables the integration of common mode and differential mode filters into integrated planar structures.12-18-2008
20080303378SURFACE ACOUSTIC WAVE (SAW) DEVICES BASED ON CUBIC BORON NITRIDE/DIAMOND COMPOSITE STRUCTURES - A surface acoustic wave (SAW) device which is made of cBN/diamond composite structures and the fabrication method are disclosed. In the SAW device based on cubic boron nitride and diamond composite structures, the diamond hard layer includes randomly-oriented polycrystalline diamond (poly-D), oriented (heteroepitaxial) diamond, single-crystal diamond wafers and nanocrystalline diamond (nano-D) films. The cBN film with a sound velocity close to that of diamond serves as the piezoelectric layer, which was directly deposited on diamond hard layer without any soft sp12-11-2008
