20100303735METHOD AND ARRANGEMENT FOR FORMING VARIABLE COLOR PHARMACEUTICAL PRODUCTS - Methods and arrangements for forming a color gradient on a pharmaceutical dosage forms such as tablets are disclosed. In preferred aspects of the invention, a coating layer is applied to a tablet core so that the coating layer is different from the color of the tablet core. The coating layer is etched by one or more lasers to remove selected portions thereof and reveal the core. Removal of selected portions of the coating layer, while other portions remain unetched by the laser(s), causes a variation in the color of the coating layer. The color of the tablet core may be visible at locations at which portions of the coating layer have been entirely removed while the color of the coating layer, i.e., the color of any of the color coatings thereof, is visible at locations at which portions of the coating layer have been only partially removed or not removed at all.12-02-2010
20100291183ENHANCED MOISTURE BARRIER IMMEDIATE RELEASE FILM COATING SYSTEMS AND SUBSTRATES COATED THEREWITH - The present invention is directed to immediate release film coating systems for use on oral dosage forms such as compressed tablets and other orally-ingestible substrates which have improved moisture barrier properties. The film coating systems can be applied either directly to a substrate or after the substrate has been coated with a subcoat. In preferred aspects, the moisture barrier film coating is prepared as a dry powder mixture containing polyvinyl alcohol, a polymer with pH dependent solubility, a plasticizer, a glidant, and, optionally, a detackifier, an alkalizing agent and a pigment. Film coating compositions containing an aqueous suspension of the powder mixtures, methods of applying the coatings to substrates and the coated substrates are also disclosed.11-18-2010

The film coating compositions can be applied either directly to a substrate or after the substrate has been coated with a subcoat. In preferred aspects, the polymer is either polyvinyl alcohol or a copolymer of polyvinyl alcohol. Aqueous suspensions comprising the inventive film coating compositions, methods of applying the coatings to substrates and the coated substrates themselves are also disclosed.11-18-2010
